That's the transmission not the transfer case , the transfer case is back further with a jackshalf to the transmission. Most all have small leaks they are 40 to 50+ year old trucks. The common leak in the bell housing is either a overfilled transmission or the rear main seal on the crank. First...

It is just part of maintenance. I would go with AC Delco Replaced harmonic balancer plenty of reading hear...

The harmonic balancers are know to be a problem on these , 30 year old rubber binding them together.

And the mid to late 80's 5.7's had issues with the block cracking between the lifters , GM thinned the block to cut weight.

Well the TM's have great troubleshooting guides in them and can be downloaded for free . If you never read the operators manual (-10) there's a good chance that's why the truck is now broke.

People were willing to help the OP with the limited information he provided , I would guess the more you post the less chances are that it will happen now . So you never answered the question do you have TM's for it? Edit: And this is a family site .
