You can have a conversation standing next to my GETT 20kW with it running. MEP's aren't much worse. An 803 would be appropriate size for his needs. Still need to bastardize a cable.....
I'm in the process of doing similar with 60amp 208v 3phase
Decent M936A0 and M816 wreckers can be had for $10k. $15k should get you a pretty good M936A2.
$7k really is about right for that one. It may make for a pretty decent truck, but it's going to need gone through and the air system completely rehabbed at least. Paint. Tires.
The trucks with...
I see a $7000 fixer. Certainly not a $15k truck.
The tires are *NOT* impeccable. Sitting flat means they need replaced.
The hour/miles shouldn't even be looked at on a military truck. The odds of them being accurate on that one are exactly zero....
No argument. Your braking description used to be the standard, taught to everyone for every vehicle. Now they just teach "stomp it and let ABS modulate".
In the early days of ABS a skilled driver could get a shorter stopping distance than ABS. That hasn't been the case in quite some time...
I'm old enough that I learned to drive before ABS was in widespread use. I had been driving years before I ever drove a vehicle with ABS, including OTR tractor trailers.
On most vehicles ABS is a bandaid for lack of driver skill.
On these, the ABS is a compensatory mechanism for that auto...
Tag with date of manufacture will be on the drivers side of the engine. It almost certainly says 1984. However, I've seen four that say 2007.....
Any place that works on large over the road trucks can work on these. Ideally you want to learn to do just about everything yourself. These things...
1) Red River is my last choice in rebuilds. They did little more than change the guages and paint. (But a solid truck doesn't need more than that. Certainly not all RRAD trucks are bad.)
2) RRAD didn't rebuild engines. If the engine was out of spec they dropped in a new one. Check for new...
I've seen this exact set of symptoms with an air leak progressing.
Hard to start, till you crank it enough to purge the air.
Air leak gets worse. Now cranking it isn't enough to purge the air, but starting it with ether is enough to prime it.
Air leak gets worse. Ether will get it running...
That's a screaming deal for a decent M925. Granted, we have extremely limited data on which to base this....
Leaking brake chamber may be the service side, or may be the emergency side. Either way it's a trivial fix.
Emphasis - DO NOT DISASSEMBLE the brake chamber until/unless you know what...
I didn't read all the back and forth.
In think the fuel lines are leaking, allowing air entrainment. Or it may possibly be sucking air at the manual primer pump.
Putting super single tires on your truck is pretty straightforward. 395's, 14.00's, and even 16.00's will all fit. None of them will fit on the stock 5ton Budd lock ring rims. There are multiple wheel choices that work.
To use bridge truck wheels, you need spacers up front or they rub...
Thanks
I confess I had the big truck place mount the tires to the rims. I don't have shop air in KS and didn't think the onboard air in the truck was up to seating the beads. Mounting the 6 wheel/tire assemblies to the truck was all me. I broke my roboimpact on about wheel two. (It died a...
