When I got my 884 from (then) Ft Hood, all the auction trucks from cann point were missing the transfer case. I installed a 2WD transmission and driveshaft and drove it like that for years, getting around 15 mpg. When I finally got a transfer case and installed it, I was not pleased that fuel...
Yes for sure use the frame number for registration, anything else is a slippery slope.
The military wouldn’t have converted a cargo truck into a shop van truck, I suspect that occurred after release by DOD. I also suspect the previous owner had hopes of adding the winch but never got a round tuit.
They don’t call these “High Maintenance Money Wasting Vehicles” for no reason. Hey you can rip around in limp mode second gear if you want. TCM not needed for that.
Consensus here seems to be the TCMs are basically interchangeable over the years. They have different flashes based on GVW of the truck they are intended for. Pin out is the same.
You said you could find TCMs in a junk yard, since there are no HMMWV junk yards, I assumed you meant commercial...
Welcome,
Nobody that I am aware of has made a homemade adapter for the TCM. The TCM was only used in 1 year (I recall 1993) GM vehicles with 6.2 diesel and 4L80E, so finding this in a junkyard will be a challenge. Quite a few folks on here are parting out auction trucks, suggest you run a...
I’m guessing Uncle didn’t replace the core, they supplied an entire new radiator. However on the commercial side, cores are replaced all the time. Suggest you contact a radiator shop that specializes in huge industrial radiators.
Is it missing AND knocking or only knocking? A thermal gun pointed at the exhaust manifold can help you determine if a cylinder is not contributing. Is the alternator firmly attached? They have a tendency to break bolts and then rattle.
Some data points: Once you work the bugs out of them, 880s are awesome capable trucks. Mine has carried 2 yards of crushed concrete, pulled around a D3 dozer on a 3 axle trailer, transported nearly anything imaginable all over the state of Texas for me a 70 mph. Plan on 8-10 mpg. What...
On mine I had to put a fuel filter before the mechanical pump due to trash from the tank getting stuck in the pump valves, ruining the pumps over and over.
Not sure what brand tires he put on it, but Firestone Transforce are $208 ea and crappy Power Kings are $163, so quite a bit of value there for 4 tires including tax and balancing etc.
I have Transforce on mine, a good highway only tire.
