Most military radios are wideband radios and they don't play well with civilian narrowband radios like the Icoms and Yaesus. They will talk to each other but usually you get a lot of audio distortion that negates the value of radio comms. You didn't say what your planned "civilian use" is but...
Merle,
Just curious how you have a manual on the transmitter but not the receiver since the RT-246, RT-524, and R-442 are all covered together in the TM-11 5820-401-xx manuals. If you don't have them you can download them here at no cost:

Wiring in M series vehicles is standardized according to this chart: http://olive-drab.com/od_mseries_circuits.php
This is a good one to print out and keep in the toolbox.

Buy yourself a 7mm allen wrench and change them yourself. It takes all of an hour even with a learning curve built in. There's no magic to this job and it's fully documented in the maintenance manuals.

One of the best antenna installations I saw on deuces was welding the sugar scoop inside the front bumper so that the masts could be pulled down to the rear. This way branches don't catch them. Maybe you could find a way to duplicate that setup on the LMTV. I'm sure there will be others that...
Steve Kavanaugh wrote a very good checklist for HMMWV starting problems and you can find it here: http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=230913

The A6200 module gets it's filament power through the FL1001 filament current regulator and all that consists of is 2 transistors. You might want to take a look at it.

The dielectric grease is know as Dow Corniung DC-4 anti-oxidant grease. We used it in the Navy for co-axial connectors with working voltages as high as 125Kv. It's available from places like Aircraft Spruce and McMaster-Carr and most electrical supply houses should carry it.
The red stuff on...
18 years ago when I got my HMMWV there wasn't anyone to talk to about problems and we basically had to solve our own issues. Now with the advent of great forums like this and the G503 we don't have to keep reinventing the wheel. This was my early solution to this exact problem. This is a 3...

In an electrical system where you have 2 batteries in series all of the wiring shares the same current so all of your wiring in that area should be the same gauge wire. Installing a battery disconnect switch anywhere in that series loop whether it's on the + side or the - side of the batteries...
Do you have metal or plastic tail light buckets in your vehicle? The metal housings inherently ground both mounting bolts but you need to strap the two bolts together if you have plastic housings since both bolts need to be grounded. The HMMWV is notoriously bad when it comes to ground issues...
I was hobbling around (torn meniscus) at the flea market here in San Jose this morning and came across 2 almost mint (for 70 year old radios) Hallicrafters Morale Radios. One is a Sky Courier and the other is an R100. Both are crinkle finish OD and have obviously been taken care of since the...
I used a standard neutral start switch ($8 from Amtak) and mounted it on the shifter. I took power from the shifter lighting figuring if I didn't want the backup lights to come on I'd just leave the dash lights off. It's been working for 15 years now without a hitch.

Do a search for spanner wrench on eBay and you'll see the proper tool to remove those connectors without tearing them up. They're cheap and replacing the connectors isn't.

Gov Planet has been selling the M116A3 flat trailers out of Barstow for the last year in brand new condition. About as nice a green paint job as you'll ever see and I remember seeing a picture somewhere of a guy who mounted an ambulance body on one of them rather nicely. The only thing that...
No, it won't because the default mode it clutch engaged. Now if you remove the belts you'll be able to move it because your not fighting the crankshaft.

You should be able to look in the manuals and compare the M998 to the M996. That'll give you the weight and dimensions for the ambulance body. Personally I love mine and we use it as a camper all the time. Two things that make it very practical are the fact that it's waterproof and you can...
You can remove the hydraulic line that runs between the Kysor-Cadillac solenoid valve (by the windshield washer tank) and the fan bulkhead and pressurize it with air. If the clutch is working you will see it move forward and backwards about 1/4". If that's happening then you need to work...
