    speedometer died

It is kind of neat when old post come back up like this. I get to update the story. After posting what I did above a year ago. My 1009 speedo worked perfect. 6% slow, but perfect until a month ago. My wife had been driving it daily for 4 months and called me one day. She said it started...

5th Semi-Annual Texas Military Vehicle Rally

I took two pictures the entire weekend and that was before I got to the Rally. Sorry.

Why is there no fuse box or breaker box

One of the funniest post I have ever read is one written by Spicer years ago. He was describing a drive at night in Velvet when he first got it on the road. He had just done the 427Tall Deck/3053A/NP205 swap and since the lights had worked up until then, he hadn't looked at the wiring. I...

    The Move

Glad to see another M1009 owner with a Mini. I thought I was the only one. Sounds like a great adventure. Enjoy!

Electrical problems are starting to annoy me, help?

Do the blinkers and front marker lights function correctly when the headlights are on? Post #4 above found the problem many of these trucks had. Plastic bulb holders and cheap, brittle ground contacts that break off. Pull the bulb holders and use a wire to ground the bulbs directly. Then see...

    M1009 rear window key lock

There is a snap ring holding the clutch on. Then a spring loaded pawl that has to be removed before the cylinder is supposed to come out. If you have the cylinder coming out and the handle still turning the crank. Then I would guess your handle housing is cracked and bent up. Take it apart...

    Seriously messed up turn signals

Front blinker bulb holders shorting out as mentioned above, front bulb holders with broken off ground tabs and broken front holder ground wires are all common problems with this model truck. The -20 tells you things to check in the great troubleshooting section. Then it tells you to "trace...

5th Semi-Annual Texas Military Vehicle Rally

Pistolnut and I are talking about me dragging his Whistler behind mine to the event. We will then spend some of Friday and Saturday afternoon swapping out the entire wiring harness. Our thinking is that all of us spent hours sitting around talking last year after we got back from the show. We...

5th Semi-Annual Texas Military Vehicle Rally

Scratch my M715 from the event. It has a nice window on the side of the oil pan now. Long story. Anyway, it will probably be just the M35A2 for me this time around.

M1009 Driver side alt belt, latest size?

Interesting that yours threw the GEN 1 belt. Mine threw it as well yesterday. Put all new ones on today. Belt numbers from the linked threads.

    D.Side Rear Shock Removal CUCV

I did mine last summer and can't remember any problems. I think you are looking at the nut that holds the stud on. Look at it from the outside of the truck. I am pretty sure I just used an impact over the tire to get the nut off. I know I spent more time getting tools and stuff out/picked...

5th Semi-Annual Texas Military Vehicle Rally

    M715 resurrection

Looks like the modified M715 gang is all here. Getting along real well too. Adam, what ever number engine you were on in 2006 when we all played together at WITC sure did impress me. Glad you are getting back to driving it again. All the non M715 owners reading this: The M715 doesn't really...

If you could have only one CUCV...

Having Dueces, A M715 which is basically the first CUCV truck and a pair of M1009s. Along with a USAF 6.2 powered Sububan. Plus a pair of M101 and M105 trailers. I have to decide each morning which to drive and plan out which to spend money on to drive next week or next month. My family...

    Working on the M37

Mark, There are some "welding primers" out there. I can't recall the exact name, but they are made with closed in spaces in mind like you have.

M1009 fuel consumpation, what is your MPG?

My M1009 consistently got 19-22 mpg all stock. I put 33x12.50 tires on and running the same gps road speed still got 19-22 mpg in all kinds of driving. It couldn't pull hills above 52 mph either. I put in a new pump and haven't gotten better than 17 in the last 4 months running the same basic...

Where is this oil coming from?

The LU4 winch used on M37 and M715 trucks uses one of those curved dish type plugs to seal the bottom of the selector shaft. Just like on the yoke. Set in the the hole and whack it with a hammer. The last one I replaced maybe cost a dollar.
