Are they good? In other words, does the sprag work? Most guys with bad sprag transfer cases just upgrade to the air-shift transfer case, but there is nothing wrong with a working sprag transfer case. There probably are a few guys that want to stay with the sprag transfer case, but not many...
I believe the one that Dave Newman had was my truck. I sold it to him and he sold it to a guy in VA. Last I heard, he was entering it into tractor pulls! Too bad, too...I was told he is abusing the piss out of the truck. I realize it was made for this abuse, but that truck had a frame-up...
Yup, it's a 5 ton. Nice truck. $8K for a Cummins-powered wrecker is CHEAP. They generally go for more than $10K at auction. You may want to contact MADSAM in Colorado. He has an M816, too, and may be able to suggest some good parts sources. Congratulations on your truck.
Great looking truck. Cool tires. If you decide to put NDCCs back on the truck, you may want to contact John Winslow. A few years back he wanted to trade me some NDCCs for some radials I had on a truck because he drives his truck on the road mainly and prefers the radials. Any way, not saying...
With regard to the mounting brackets, I've owned a few wreckers and seen many more. I've never seen two wreckers with the exact same brackets that mount the field spades. In fact, the brackets look homemade to me. They are basically just studs welded to the top of the wrecker boom that secure...
CARNAC: Beautiful truck...and, best of all, you have some history with it. There are not many (if any) people on this list that can say they knew a particular truck that they happen to own while they were in service! Good luck! Let me know if I can help you with anything.
NX85Y4: I am about two hours from you. I don't have any deuces for sale, but you are more than welcome to drive any truck I have to see which you want to pursue. I have many 5 tons and deuces. I'd be happy to help you find a truck that you want. PM if interested in meeting. Good luck and...
Jim, are you thinking of mounting 1100s on it? Or, are you thinking of mounting some bigger tires (e.g., 14.5s or larger)? If you are mounting 1100s, I have 1100X20 Michelins on my M149A2 and they work fine.
Beautiful truck. Man, what a score. You may want to look into this, but I've been told it is not good to mix batteries...something about charging properties...one (or more) battery may get over-charged, while the others may get under-charged. I know this is the case when you mix 6TL and 6MF...
$500-550 for those M101A2s is cheap. I wanted one, too, but I could not pull the trigger...too many green-iron purchases this past year (and possibly one going down for me this weekend...another $15K out the window).
If you got the truck from GL, you may be eligible to back out of the auction if you can prove that parts were taken after the pics were taken. They will NOT compensate you, though. I've tried. They agreed I had a valid claim but were only willing to let me back out of the sale. I had over...
I had an M313 and I don't believe they ever had a pintle hitch in the rear. I suppose you could mount one, though. I liked my trailer, but many of them have water damage where the sides were not (or could not be) properly shut. That was the case with my old trailer.
As far as I know, there are two different types of heaters...hot water heaters and fuel burning heaters. I am not sure of this, but I bet there were different models with slightly different ratings, too. As I said, I'm not sure of this, though. I believe both the hot water and fuel burning...
