I have used both to flat tow a M35. Use the military tow bar hooked to the miltary mounts. The system was designed to be used and abused by people who don't care what damage they do. Amazingly enough, using the miltary parts is very easy, simple and it works.
I used the axle wraps once...
Both of my M1009's have 1" holes in them. I use the same feet for them as for the M35's.
the M715 special adaptors also take the 1" pins and feet. Even though the M715 frame mounted shakles themselves are 3/4".
The M37 and M151 are 3/4".
I don't know what the HMWWV is.
To add an answer to todays question. A military medium tow bar with the 1" feet will fit right on the front shackle mounts. I hooked up to a M1009 a few weeks ago and it took longer to carry the stupid heavy tow bar out of the bed of the pull truck than it did to hook everything up.
Starter- use a 12 volt unit and wire it up like any other Chevy starter.
Alternator. Battery positive to the post on the back. Buy a new Delco alternator pig tail from any auto parts store. Red wire on the new plug back over to the 12 v positive post the other wire is already hooked to...
Yes you can change to a shorter belt. Yes, your pulley could have been changed. Something else to look for is a flattened out pulley. Look at the pulley with the belt off and make sure it isn't shiny down in the groove where the thin inside of the belt could have been making contact. If you...
Check the torque converter to flywheel bolts. They make a noise that sounds a lot like the starter hitting something. Mainly because they are either hitting the starter or flywheel cover as they work loose.
Your exciter wire has to work for the screwdriver to the back trick to work. If you are comfortable working with electrical stuff. Just jump from the hot wire bolted to the back of the alternator to the exciter wire with it plugged in. Do this with the engine running and you should hear the...
REO actually made a 4x4 Duece truck. XM247 I think. So, registering a bobed Duece is still in the spirit of the law.
With the FMV registration, you pay for 5 years at once, need no plates and no inspection. Just the bumper numbers. If you are driving it to work everyday, local law...
What did the exciter wire do with the key on and off?
There shouldn't be anything in the wiring that would cause you to get 25 volts at the drivers side alternator. Since it was working fine before and all your 12 volt truck components aren't leaking magic smoke out, lets just ignore the high...
Are there shackles and pins on the bumpers? That makes tie downs a lot more easy to hook on and not break something on the truck.
Railroad has been suggested and talked about before. Mostly it comes down to vandalism and the fact that you might get a tagged up frame when you go to pick up...
He called again at 1000 my time this morning. Sounded like they were rolling down the highway. They made Flaggstaff last night and hopes for central NM today.
Truck is running great. Headlight problems though. Low beams working good on one side and high beams bleeding over to dim low beams the...
Warthog called around 1700 my time with an update. They were in the truck and crossing Hoover Dam. It runs fine and seems to be happy around 55-60 mph. More than that and the front end feels not so nice and a few shakes and rattles show up.
The clutch has to be all the way to the floor and...
You are correct. The tie rods can stay on when just getting to the boots. However, for somebody doing this the first time and needing to probably walk the knuckle somewhere to clean all the dried up old grease out. It is a lot easier to remove the tie rod when the knuckle is holding itself on...
Clean both surfaces and duct tape the thing on there for a few hours before you try to hang the mirror has worked better for me than holding it and then letting go.
That is the best way to do it.
Unplug the plug from the side of the alternator. Use your volt meter to check voltage at the red wire on the back of the alaternator, then check voltage on the red wire in the plug you un did. Both should be battery voltage with the key off. the brown wire on...
Yes, to get a title you need to pay them for the SF-97, wait for it to show up and then go pay the state for a title.
If there is no assistance, a come along winch hooked to the lunette ring will pull and or drag a non rolling trailer. They are light, around 1300 pounds. So, a come along...
A swivel socket, the ones that look like u joints, and enough extentions to let you lay back behind the transfer case will also work on the upper bellhousing to engine bolts.
As mentioned above. Something that looks good might not be road ready until you take it apart and make sure. I bought my 101 for the then minimum bid of $50 because it was ugly, rusty, no paint and 1 flat tire while the other tire had a huge chunk out of it but still held air. It got to ride...
