Mine has some "slop" in the shift pattern, but after the first ten or fifteen minutes that I drove it - it shifts like a dream. It isn't a Hurst Shifter or a VertiGate Shifter either. The pin that @G744 mentioned is a good place to look.

Hydraulic Oil is pretty generic. ISO 46, 10wt is pretty much what you need. Tractor Supply is a good source in 5 gallon pails. Happens that I have a Shell Oil distributor about a mile from my place and I get 55 gallon drums of "Tellus" and it is as good as any. Lots of anti-wear agents in...

Yes.
What you are doing is removing the potential for sound. With nothing but the little brass bushings supporting the shaft - if you hear a squeak - you have a worn bushing.
Yes, you could squirt WD-40 on the shaft but all you are doing is prolonging the problem.

Grounds. Grounds. Grounds.
It is a pain in the backside, but anything attached to the aluminum body of the HMMWV should have two wires for every function. One is power. One is Ground. The TM gives you the wire numbers, but with some effort and a lot of time - crawling around under your...

mgFray is definitely "spot on" about repairing before the bearings inside get "egg shaped" and the armature hits the stators (fields) inside. You can just about hear the dollars flying out the window when that happens. A good generator / alternator rebuild shop should be able to replace the...

Should be good to go. Sleeves to bring the bore up to standard size is a good thing. Sleeves that conduct heat away from the bore should make the engine run cooler too.
I personally think I would ask for my (your) .075 pistons. Doesn't matter if they are good or not. They make incredibly...

If you really are losing the Jackshaft because it is coming unbolted - or if the U-Joints have failed - you really aughta hear a heck of a noise. That 8 or so pounds of steel slapping around in the transmission tunnel should sound like it is coming up in the truck to get you.

That sounds like really good news. Rebuilt can be as good as or better than new when done right. I am sure you have already - but it might be worth asking - What kind of Warranty does this specialist offer on the work that he will complete?

Can't say for sure, but that one little tiny thing holding that plate on the alternator... It is possibly a screw? Something that maybe you could take off and carry to a nut and bold distributor? TAPE IT DOWN to a card or something so you don't lose the only one that you have!
Only other...

I guess it is an "old man-ism" that says to drive a ground rod. On the other hand, that Grounding Electrode Array is pretty nice. And if you ever have to beat feet, it might be possible to yank that out of the dirt and go roaring down the road...
Once learned, some things are good...

Crows Feet are magic. Used to work on a lot of corner mounted derricks and the only way to get to the hydraulic hoses was with "an old crow". They do help you understand how tight is tight enough when you use them. Good and snug is more than enough when addressing JIC fittings...

Welcome to the Outfit!
That's a nice truck and you should contribute to the "Front End Friday" thread tomorrow. There is a lot of action in the neighborhood! Jump on in and start up a thread for your new "little green monster". Pictures please!!
