I prefer the 101A2 or 101A3 because of the easy to find 8 lug rims and surge brakes. They also have 12V bulbs already. If you are looking, try to find one with the rear stabilizer leg. Makes it a lot easier to load up without being hooked to a truck or to leave loaded so you can use the...
Are you sure they will allow us to run our MV's in the park? I called a year or so ago and was told that my stock M715 could not be allowed in because it doesn't have a permanant top or roll cage. That would keep the M35's away as well.
Us M715 guys have had 4 M715 state wide gatherings in...
Oh yeah, we are "welcome" at the open house. However, they will park us away from the "real" military vehicles. As in WWII perfectly restored stuff. At least they have done that to me in both my M715 and my stock 1971 M35A2.
By park away, I mean in the regular parking area (field a long...
I can do that. Let us know prices and schedule.
To bad the next weekend isn't open. The Brent Mullins show is the 20th just a few miles away from the part. BMJP gets real annoyed when people show up with vehicles that aren't perfectly restored to his standards. They get mad when you up with...
One of the security guys at Easterwood is in charge of the trails and inspections at that park off 47. I drove my M715 to go fly one of the A&M flying club planes last month and he pulled his security truck up to me, jumped out and started talking about how he "needs" a truck like that. If you...
I thought of that after I wrote the post above. All reports about Gasser 5 tons were in wreckers. My Gasser M35 probably has more heft to it than a 5 ton tractor too.
The 5 ton has the Sprag style tcase. The front axle engages when the rear tires start to spin faster than the fronts. When you put it in reverse, can you hear the air pushing the selector? Actually, it is more of a thunk when you put it into gear and a hssss when you take it out of reverse.
Think 2-4 mpg if you get them running too. Duece cab, doors and such if you need body work.
If the engines don't turn, don't pay more than scrap plus you cost to get them home.
The engine has solid valve lifters. So, since engine parts expand and contract with temperature changes. There needs to be some slack in there. Otherwise, as they heated up, they would be too close and start to bend and break. The intake doesn't get as hot as the exhaust valve which is why...
Chevy made 2 basic Tall Deck Big Block gasoline V8 engines. The 366 which had a little bore and a huge long stroke. The 427 Tall deck was the other version. Think big block with an extra 1/2" added to the top of the cylinders. Both engines are torque monsters used in school buses, grain...
I looked at my Gasser starter this afternoon. The foot pedal pushed against what is basically just a big switch. The starter gear is engaged by the spinning of the starter. Think just a big version of what every Ford V8 had for about 40 years. I think it would be possible to rig up a new M35...
I left work at 1630 today, drove 5 miles home in the M715, changed clothes, grabbed a 1-1/2" socket, breaker bar and a big sledge. I took the tools over to the spare rear suspension Wart Hog dropped off in the middle of the night a few months ago, spent a few minutes knocking a good dog bone...
Do what you feel comfortable with, but leaving the truck in neutral at all times, using the parking brake and chalking the tires like the TM says to do would probably be the best all around. Especially, if you add a multifuel later. They don't get left in gear because if they start rolling...
The Gasser OA331 solenoid is on the starter itself. The newer electric push button solenoid is mounted to the engine away from the starter.
I will have to look, but I think the Gasser pedal actaully mechanically pushes the starter gear forward with the solenoid really only turning on the...
What is your idle rpm with the truck warm? It should be 800-1000. If you are a bit lower than that, then turn it up and see if your starting issues go away.
Personally, I think you have more of a fuel related issue than anything else. The more pure diesel in my tank, the better mine starts...
I would go 4BT as well. Here is why:
800 pound engine compared to a 1200 pound 6BT No lift or axle swap needed.
Mechanical fan possible with no cutting of anything.
Intercooler possible because the short engine lets the radiator be pushed back some.
Smaller engine means less fuel used...
There is a 4 or 5 page thread on the Zone about it started by me. I am a teacher at a juvenile correctional facilty. That means my students are year round, ages 13-19, can get paroled or sent to prison at any time. I have had 8 different students working on it in the past year that it has...
The first video with the 6 BT was shot by me in my class room. The truck is still sitting about 30 feet from me right now. We are trying to make a Banks intercooler bolt to either the hood or the top of the engine and then figure out how to get air to it. I made the video to prove to Sermis...
