Make sure you set the shoe clearance first. Unless they are just a hair away from the drum, you will never have a solid feel when you push on the lunette ring.
Once they are adjusted, you can push on the lunette and have somebody open a bleeder like doing any other vehicle manually. A vacuum...
Figure 230-250 as the max heat for mineral based oils. With that in mind along with the mention above about how because of the gearing things spin pretty fast. 186 isn't really all that bad. My M715 t-case was at 230 after I flat towed the thing behind the Whistler 90 miles a month ago. I...
Joe,
If this is for your M37A3 project, I would advise you against the rims. I thought they were neater than sliced bread until I started messing with them during my M101 repaint. I had a pair of both versions and both style of run flat inserts. They don't inter mingle and they are a pain to...
RJ,
The -20 shows you how to check the sender and the gauge for faults using a DVOM. If you don't have a volt/ohm meter, it might be cheaper to buy the cheapest mechanical gauge you can find on the bargain table and install that to make sure the truck isn't running hot.
However, Harbor Freight...
The tow bar up real short (holes 1-3) seems to aggrivate the towed trucks front tires. They then want to turn the wrong direction on you. I have never had a tire turn the wrong way using holes 6-8. Holes 4 and 5 sometimes work great and sometimes don't. I use hole 7 when I can now all the time.
A bearing press is the best/correct way. Another tool that works is a cv joint puller slide hammer. Here is the first picture I could find after a fast search:
KD Tools Inner CV Joint Pullers for Slide Hammer
As pointed out above. Nothing is holding the inner race on. It just likes being...
My Michelin XZL's on the M715 have the wave to them as well. Almost 15000 miles now with no issues. They are just massive radials with a flexible sidewall.
I like that tire idea. Thanks for posting it.
The wire rope should be on the top of the winch drum. The pto shift pattern from the rear of the cab is like this: REV-N-LOW-N-HI
Below is the only picture I have hear at work of the shift pattern plate on my Gasser.
A 350 will get you through any mud you find. Power wise that is.
If you just plan to drive this thing around town and in the mud, don't care about highway speeds and want a real simple swap. Find a K20 or K30 from the '70's with a V8, SM465 and married NP205. Pull all 3 out together, put...
I have a 396 Big Block with a NV4500 in mine. Works great.
My students are real close to wrapping up a 350/3053A swap for Pistolnut in one of his M715's. That should work good too. Both of the above swaps could be done in a weekend if you planned ahead, have a welder and basic fabrication...
Mark,
I am a few miles off of 21 if you decide to cut the corner and take non interstates going to Little Rock the next time. Let me know if I can help.
