Using the winch will really for sure be a two person job if you have that much cable. Pulling with any kind of a side load will cause it to bunch up and remove that nice aluminum cross brace on the bottom of the winch. However, cable left at home won't help you when you really need it.
What tubes are you using and how old are they? NDT bias ply tubes will not work inside your radial SS tires. Plus, if the tubes are more than 5 years or so, they probably cracked like crazy expanding out to the SS size.
Did you check your hubs, e-brake and drums? I know it shouldn't go faster with something dragging, but a turned up engine having to overcome a constant drive train drag will make more heat.
A week or so ago, I helped Kwai bring a M109A3 across Texas from New Mexico. It was 104 degrees or...
Joe, I didn't write about it above, but the first thing I did was crack the fuel line at the carb loose. Fuel under pressure came squirting out. I am getting fuel to the carb with pressure and it was still there after sitting for 5-10 minutes with all the heat underneath it. Even though it...
A bunch of us M715 types are going to be heading out this weekend for Buena Vista, Colorado. Anybody with a MV is welcome to show up. We have several group areas reserved at the KOA.
The points in it now were installed 20+ years ago, but never used. They were clean, so I left them in it. I got out my new points and condensor last night and plan to install them if I have time this week. Otherwise they will get put in after I am done playing with the M715 in Colorado for...
Look around the clamps holding the lines to the frame. Corroding clamps could have bit into the line or, soldier B could have undone the line at some place down the line, bent it out of the way for something and then bent it back. Never knowing he kinked it at the next clamp down the line.
Sunday afternoon I used the M35 to put a round bale of hay out. 10 minutes of idle in low 1st and reverse. Then I put it in hi and drove to the end of my property to fix a gate in 1st with no throttle. Turned it off, fixed the gate and tried to start it 5 minutes later. It just turned and...
Another way to keep air in the system without running the engine is to use the emergency glad hand on the passenger side rear. Put fittings on it so you plug an air hose from your home compressor to the glad hand, open the valve and crawl under the truck to find the leak.
Hmmm, both of the "Quad -50" trucks look like Gassers. I also notice that one of them has the side panels removed and a Diesel intake mushroom. Intereresting.
Thanks for posting the pictures.
White smoke would be coolant.
Autozone and O'Riellys also carry the head gasket. I bought one a year ago for $28.00.
A compression check will tell you which cylinders are low. You will probably find two next to each other that are way lower than the other 4.
You could also do a coolant...
Hmm, I checked the spark system the first time this happened. I am the Den Leader for Colton's Bear's. We just finished a meeting and all the kids had their parents wait until I fired it up so they could watch me leave. It didnt' start and I told them to go on home after 5-10 minutes of...
We have been averaging 98-102 for day time high's. My Gasser used to start up without a pump or choke no matter what the outside air temp with the first kick of the starter. Now, since I started driving it on the road and getting real hot underhood temps, it won't start back up after a run...
The reason they didn't make it I would imagine is this. I sent 6 pictures along with a 1 minute video I had Colton film of me going through the gears at one stop. That video probably overloaded my dial up and caused an error. I will send them all individually tonight since my students are...
Kwai has some pictures. Mine didn't make the trip from my home computer to my work computer for some reason last night. I will try again once I get home.
We made it to his ranch 525 miles from FMJ about 13 hours after we left him. (It was nice to meet your FMJ!)
Kenny, I am so glad you showed us the "close the windows and vents but leave the front windshields open" trick in GA last fall. I was comfortable at 50 mph in 104+ degree temps going...
From a "I did this a few months ago" perspective. I would suggest the following:
Use two or more movable lift points to pick up the cab. A single engine hoist will do it if you remove your running boards and spend hours getting the balance just right.
Removal of the steering box and column...
