Well, it has been two weeks and I have "fixed" 15 of the 19 trouble spots mentioned in the first post.
The tunnel cover captured nuts were just a matter of a chisel and hammer to cleanly knock off the bad ones followed by a new nut welded on in the center of the hole.
The pictures below...
The TM 9-8022 for Gasser M35's list the toe in as 1/16-3/16 for 9.00 tires and 1/16-1/8 for 11.00 tires. That is center tread to center tread. Obviously, the bigger tires make for different measurements. But, the angle is the same on both.
So, if you set it with stock tires on front, it will...
Tom,
Colton saw "Back to the future" for the first time last weekend. Being only 9, he sometimes has difficulty telling fact from fiction. Last night, I was messing with the Hyrdoboost I have and plan to put on the M715. I was looking at it and telling him how small it looks and really is...
You probably burned the coil out on the M715 too by leaving it on all night. Just givin you a heads up incase it doesn't start after you figure out the battery problem.
I took part in a similar trip a few months ago. A 3/4 ton or 1 ton chase vehicle with a pintle hook and a medium tow bar is a great "what if" safety plan. We had tools piled up everywhere but besides checking the fluid levels, we didn't need them. That is mostly due to the truck and the fact...
We used a blow gun, air tool oil and Royal Purple penetrating oil to clean them up and lubricate them. The Royal Purple stuff ended up just about everywhere so it might have helped the action out some. Go with whatever lubricant you have on the shelf and see what it does.
My students and I rebuilt two of mine today. Both were frozen up and had all kind of crud in the intake lines.
The first one we did took alot of cleaning to get to work. Oil, grease and a paper clip to remove some kind of bug got it working. But, it was not going full sweep and only worked...
The weather has finally cooled off enough for me to get serious about doing the paint work on my M35. The cab on the 1952 Gasser is rusted real bad and not worth saving. So is the one on my 1953 Gasser. So was the dropside truck cab that came in the back of one of the trucks. The dropside...
I can't help you on the pipe size. I just used a tow bar.
Now on the putting it into position question. The point of the "A" has to be about 1 foot above the winch for the winch to pull it up higher. That has been my experience at least. I assemble the tow bar with the point on a stool...
Here is my stock tow bar with a shackle on the lunette loop. Since I don't have any body on my M35 I just hooked the chain that holds it up to the little "handles" on the side of the frame above the front axle.
The only problem with this method is the winch cable hits the top cross brace on...
Here is the picture I promised. Welding lead connector used to fix a cut wire. Also in the picture is the frayed strands that I cut off to make the connectors fit. I had both sides of the cut in one pile, so I still didn't count the number of strands. But, you can tell there is a lot of...
I will try to remember a picture tonight. The slave cable I got from Sermis had an individual wire for positive and negative. One of them was cut apart about the middle of the 25' length.
I cut off the frayed ends and installed welding lead connectors to splice the wire back together. I...
I don't remember the exact dimensions right now. But, I think the tank is something like 30" high. Which converts to 5 gallons or so for every 3 inches. The pick up for the fuel pump is somewhere between 1/4"-1" off the bottom of the tank depending on dents, the bolts being in the proper...
But, like Lanty wrote. You still have a small tube axle housing with thin coarse splines compared to stuff designed only 30 years ago.
Bob has put the Dodge closed knuckle hubs on the M715 D60 and it works. But, what do you gain? You still have to make the rears 8 lug and the front axle...
Chris, It was the fall that reminded me I needed the camera. All the above pictures were taken after the incident. But, if you look at the first picture, you can see two yellow and rust things. The one on the left is the top of hte top and the one directly behind the hoist is the back of the top.
It was in better shape before it got to my house. We put a dent in the drivers rear corner of the cab moving it from the trailer it showed up on over to my Chevy. Then I didn't check my straps a 3rd time yesterday and the passenger side door got bent a little. Look at the first picture and...
I have an extra cab that is rust/dent free for my Gasser. It has been sitting on the back of my flatbed Chevy for the last few months waiting for me to find the space/time to start cleaning it up. Sunday was the day it got attention. My original plan was to use the hydraulic pto driven tail...
