    Contact Maintenance CUCV

I normally don't follow up to say "Yeah, what he said", but in this case, I'll make an exception, even if it has been corrected previously. Front differential in M1028 and M1031 trucks is a Dana Trac-Lok. Rear differential in everything EXCEPT the M1009 is a Detroit "No-Spin" AKA Detroit...

    Expanding research - CUCV VINs

It's not really a matter of a character representing a specific model, but the latter of the two threads will give you the more complete information. The VIN's all follow the rules of the 17-character VINs that were put into effect in 1981. I don't think Mike ever followed up on the last thread...

    12 volts from a 24 volt system

RE: Re: 12 volts from a 24 volt system Bjorn is right: You can't rely on a 24V alternator to fully re-charge the battery that is being "tapped", since the current is split between the batteries. The one being tapped needs more than the other, so it will be undercharged, while the other will be...

    VIN Help

RE: Re: RE: VIN Help If it was a contact maintenance truck, it was an M1031, hence the 205 and the cab/chassis RPO. The M1028A1/A2 were MWO's for an M1031. The door plate is really pretty meanigless. My M1009 is an M1028, according to the door and my M1028A1 was an M1009, according to the...

    DASH PAD

The GMPartsDirect price is about as low as I've seen. Classic Industries has them for $399. They also have an 'OER Authorized" repro for $189 that suppposedly fits well and is available in colors. "Carmine" appears to be the original match. Shipping might kill you though. Given a little sun...

Need some advice on a hard starting CUCV

The temp sender for the GPs is in the rear drivers side. Have you ever pulled the GPs? If the relay is cycling, then it should be sending power to the GPs. Check for voltage at the input to the relay (from the firewall resistor).

    VIN Help

RE: Re: RE: VIN Help I should add that I've never confirmed it through looking at the original contract, but I don't believe there were any factory produced M1028A1's, which is why I say it isn't an M1028A1, thus no NP205...

    VIN Help

RE: Re: RE: VIN Help It is probably an M1028 VIN, if you can trust the listing. The NSN is not a CUCV NSN, it is a generic 1-ton truck NSN. The DRMO site must have been lazy. This truck WILL NOT have the NP205. It has the NP208. But, it *should* have a Dana Trac-Lok in the front axle, if it's...

    Taxes on Gov liquidation?????

Call them and tell them. Make sure you can quote the statute that shows this or tell them that your "contact at the DMV" said if they have any questions, call the DMV. They respond well to specific statutes, especially if you provide them a link to the states website where it can be seen by...

    Taxes on Gov liquidation?????

They don't pocket the money. The auditors would have a field day. They send it to the states, but there is no breakdown as to what the goods were. In MD, this means they send MD a 5% sales tax, but the state does not care that it is on a vehicle, because they don't know. When you title it, you...

    GL price fixing?

I think you just explained the problem... Here's the way some (a lot of) people think: If water cans would cost me $30 each and I wanted 7, then I would pay $210 to get them. Any less, and I'm getting a good deal. ESPECIALLY if I am not a military hobbyist. There are way more non-MV folks...

    Winter is coming...winterizing ideas

Re: RE: Re: RE: Winter is coming...winterizing ideas Stock plugs are 13G's, but you should get the non-swelling Wellman 070's off ebay (search on CUCV glow plug) to be safe. How long are you heating them? The truck should start pretty readily down to 30° or so. Below that it might be a little...

I'm looking at getting the big bad 10ton. . .

Whew! I lost track of this thread after deciding he was a BSer. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt when I asked if he didn't already have an M123A1C, but he never directly answered. His sig on stovebolt showed he owned like 8 trucks, so I thought "Well, maybe he really does have it...

    trailer insurance?

RE: Re: RE: trailer insurance? Now that I think about it, this does ring a bell. Maybe it was that they would not insure it via the truck, but would insure it on a seperate policy, with the restriction that you were not supposed to haul anything with it? It was strictly for "show" purposes...

    trailer insurance?

Re: RE: trailer insurance? Actually, I found this to be true as well for "specialty" insurance. Hagerty, JC Taylor, etc did not insure trailers, except possibly on a case by case basis. I suspect that is mostly for "street rod" trailers, but you could check with your agent/company...

    M1009 Dual Tanks?

I doubt that complies with DOT regulations... Regardless, if the truck catches fire in an accident, I'd rather not have the risk of being soaked in oil when I'm trying to get out through any nearby flames...

    CUCV oil filler cap

According to PS Mag, this cap is used to prevent pressurizing in the event of a freeze up of the oil fill tube in excessively cold temps, however often that might happen anywhere but Alaska in the winter.... My civvy truck has the standard cap and it's never given me a problem.

    trailer insurance?

I think in most states the trailer is covered by the towing vehicle's policy as it is "part" of the towing vehicle when in tow, but hopefully someone from FL will chime in. Worst case, check with the DMV.

    M1009 Dual Tanks?

Hmmm, can't find anything on the replacement tank.... The stock sizes were 25 and 31 gallons (although the TM says 27 gallons?), so you could always swap in a larger 31 gallon tank, but I knew a guy with a 1990 Blazer and he had a 40+ gallon tank that I thought he said he bought from JC Whitney...

    M1009 Dual Tanks?

Dual tanks are impractical on a Blazer. Not much room to mount anything extra. There is an after-market 41 gallon tank available, if I recall. That is the largest that I know of.
