Were no trucks re-powered with the 903? I remember a Mil-Veh mag article years ago about the M123A1C's in use hauling tanks and the article said they were re-powered from the v8-300 to a 903 and had Williams exhaust brakes.
I have also seen other M123 owners in the past state that their M123...
I remember a DRMO auction years ago in Alaska where they sold a lot of 155 oil pans from the CUCV winterization kits. They either got recycled or there are some floating around somewhere...
Agreed. They are good trucks, but when not driven properly, they can break things. Those trannies are stout, but not when they are overloaded. Never shift unless fully stopped to be safe.
That's an M1028 NSN. Check for a rear overload spring. Little spring mounted about an inch above the spring pack. Does the VIN start with 1GCHD? That's an M1028 VIN. M1008's are 1GCGD...
Rotate the top of the vaccum adjustment on the IP toward the rear of the truck. I would caution that it's not good to allow the tranny to always shift at low rpm. You not only tend to lug the engine, but the line pressure stays low so it's harder on the clutches...
The GM service manual has the...
M1028 was designed to carry a shelter. Has rear overload springs, Trac-lok posi in the front axle, higher GVW 9400 vs. 8800 and shelter tie-down brackets in the bed.
The power cord in your bed could be for radio power. It might be an M1008A1, which had radio racks in the back. What's the NSN...
The M816 never drove through the soft stuff that the M936 was stuck in. Look at the 816's tires. They have a little sand in the center. It's not like they both said "Hey, let's drive through there!" and the M936 got stuck, so the M816 pulled him out. The M816 backed in on hard-packed sand and...
Re: RE: Re: Possible M1008 For Sale
See the thread "M1009 price check"... Same things apply - values are relative. A clean, stright, rust-free body with axles, trans and t-case but no engine should easily fetch $2500. The engine in and running, I would expect $4000-$4500. If you hold out, you...
The inside ring is about 1.5" in diameter, the outer is about 4", so it's easy to tell the difference. If the inner snap ring came off the axle, it might prohibit the hub from engaging, because it will allow the axle to push in slightly, although it still may be able to engage (I've never tried...
Values are relative. Everyone is cheap. Nobody buys retail anymore, but everyone wants retail pricing for their stuff (can you blame 'em?). That means any M1009 over $4K is overpriced to many people. Value is determined by the buyer, not the seller. If no buyer thinks it's that valuable, it...
Re: RE: Re: RE: stalling now no start
I have heard this before, but I'm not sure it's true across the board. Maybe early civvy trucks didn't have it, but I just changed the filter on my '88 and I'm 99.9% sure it has the same switch in the base. Maybe it's just a place holder, but it's there...
Since the batteries are wired in series, the negative of the rear battery IS the positive of the front battery, which is 12V, just like the junction block. Gen 1 charges the front battery and Gen2 charges the rear battery. What size fuses are you putting in? What is the second fuse you mentioned...
Group 31's are easier to get than 6TL's and they are plenty stout. They also fit right in the battery trays, although you have to move the hold-down studs to the inner holes if it currently has 6TL's...
It could only get "forced" open if it's in backwards AND it's worn out... If it's in backwards and still good, it'll get awful hot before opening...
The stocker t-stat is a 190. I believe the latest GM version is a high-flow. If you're not towing heavy with the truck, any decent brand will do...
My M1028A1 had this and I have seen numerous other trucks marked this way, too. I think it means no air conditioning, as ridiculous as that may sound...
They were. But 5/4-ton in the military is a literal interpretation of the payload. 2900 minus about 400 pounds for 2 passengers equals 2500lbs or 5/4-ton payload.
