    MEP 1040 won’t start

I assume you recently picked it up from Butner? Is it this one? https://www.govplanet.com/for-sale/Generators-and-Power-Equipment-2014-Cummins-Power-Generation-MEP-1040-Generator-Set-North-Carolina/10499863?h=5000%2Csm%7C1%2Ck%7Cmep1040%2Csort%7Cd+asc%2Cmf%7C1&rr=0.5&hitprm=&pnLink=yes

    MEP 1040 won’t start

Sounds like it’s going to require the DCS to be removed and inspected internally for damage.

Iron Planet Title - DRASH trailer

Here in NC when you go to complete the purchase you now have the option for the SF97 or a NCDMV Title. If I remember correctly having them provide the title is like $200 over the cost of the SF97. If I take the SF97 and get it myself its $25. There are road use tax on top of that which you have...

Can I run 12 volt LED's from a single battery on my MEP802?

I was going to ask that, as cheap as buck converters are, can you use one of those?

MEP-803A Long time reader first time poster

Dude, that exhaust pipe made me giggle. Not in a bad way. I was laughing because its something like I would do. :D

Can I run 12 volt LED's from a single battery on my MEP802?

You can run off a single battery but it’s not best practice since it can lead to a charge imbalance between the batteries.

    The river has gone dry

I have a few in the que to get fixed up and go for adoption. After that I expect to be done with them for a while.

    The river has gone dry

A number of us have been squealing about the cost and availability of generators for a while now. Its gotten almost impossible to offer these machines to users for a reasonable cost. I pretty much throw a number down and don't worry whether I get it or not. I'm not getting into any kind of a...

    MEP-803A Starting issues! please help!

Are you holding it in "START" till you see oil pressure registering on the gauge? This isn't like other machines where you release the START switch as soon as it fires off. You have to hold it in START till its running and it is registering oil pressure. Otherwise it will shutdown.

    MEP 803 smoking under load.

How was load measured? The onboard load meter or with an external amp meter?

    MEP 803 smoking under load.

Don’t think we have enough info to say. How many hours on the set? Can we get more history? Is this a new problem?

    MEP-831A no power

That sucks. Hope you can find something to get you going again.

    Stuck Injector? Mep 803a

As easy as the pumps are to disassemble and clean by hand, I'd recommend doing that. Getting them out of the machine is the hardest part. Do NOT use anything abrasive to clean them. Lots of clean rags and some carb cleaner is all you need. You want to avoid scratching any of the internal...

    MEP-802A/803A Coolant Servicing

Pretty normal dissimilar metals type corrosion. Waterpump is a good guess on source. I had one come through with some serious cooling system issues. The coolant had jelled. I did a couple of plain water flushes then ran some cooling system cleaner through ti. When I rinsed it out, everything...

    MEP831 Starter

I thought about using the TIG. I'll need to practice a bit to get my heat control dialed in. I have some brazing rods.

    MEP831 Starter

Well crap. I've confirmed the wire is brazed and not soldered on there. I don't have the appropriate torch setup for that. :(

    MEP831 Starter

Going to see if I can repair this thing. The wire was jacked up sideways and twisted between the starter and solenoid which looks to have pulled all the slack out of it. I think that is the root cause of the problem. The wire looks plenty long to get back on the tab and reach the solenoid...

    MEP831 Starter

I'm working on a 831 that needs a starter. I have a couple of parts machines and can pull one if necessary but I was going to see if anyone has a source for one that isn't $350. I can find the 12v versions of the starter all day for like $60 but the 24v version is stupid expensive. I get...

How do you move your generator(s)?

The old tractor can still get the work done. Two at a time. :D When I need to move the 831 around the neighborhood during an outage.

Required spare parts to keep on hand for MEP 802/803

Priority parts in my opinion are filters, fluids, and a selection of all the rubber stuff - Belts and hoses. Fuel pump. fuel leaks are what I find most the common problem on these machines. if you run the machine a lot then I would recommend having a water pump. They tend to start failing...
