    Aftermarket MEP-803 alternators

What have you done to conclude that the alternator is bad?

    MEP-802/3 Radiators

Having a spare radiator would be nice to have but if push really came to shove, I'd find an auto radiator of sufficient capacity, some long flex hoses (coupled for length if necessary and find an electric fan out of a car and mount it externally, leaving the mechanical fan to vent the housing...

    802a Connection corrosion

They are available new. Check here. 14-141 - Cinch Connectivity Solutions - Panel Mount Barrier Terminal Block, 2 Row, 14 Positions (newark.com) I used to have tens of thousands of these type terminal strips of various sizes that I found while dumpster diving many years ago. I'd sell them...

    Mep-803a

If you do what you describe, you will end up with "wet stacking". These generators are designed to be run under a load. You can make a load of sufficient size using 2 electric dryer heating elements and a fan to cool them and a couple of pieces of #10 or #8 wire.

Pressure test the cooling system to see if it holds pressure.

    Show me your generator shelter

Just busting balls. :giggle: I usually only throw the tarp over it if snow is predicted. Putting the generator under cover is always a good thing as long as it's far enough away from any other structure in case of a fire. I don't even park my vehicles close enough to my house or garage for the...

    Show me your generator shelter

This is mine for now. Until I get the set mounted on a pad and hard wired to the house, I'm not building anything.

    Generator exercise??

I run my MEP803a once a month for half an hour to an hour with 75-80% load on it, (two dryer elements, that draw 43 amps) then cool unloaded for a couple of minutes then top off the fuel. I think once a week would be excessive.

Best gen set for home backup.

The natural gas route would/might be nice for some, but I have two problems.....it's not handy out here in the Kentucky sticks and if it was, it's utility dependency that I would rather not have. Luckily, even living as remote as I do, the power outages here have been surprisingly minimal over...

mep-002a stuck float in day tank

Won't hurt anything, it will just take a bit longer to prime the system next time you go to start it. Be sure your batteries are up to snuff.

MEP 802A M8 Percent Load Gauge Issue

For cleaning things like this I cut bristles of an acid brush a bit shorter to stiffen it up a little and use some electronics contact cleaner spray or just 90% isopropyl and compressed air.

MEP 802A M8 Percent Load Gauge Issue

Excellent picture!! Thank You for finding it and posting. It adds some meaning to the schematic and illustrates the simplicity of a "sampling circuit".

    MEP 802A Fix-up Thread 3.0

You might want to leak test the other tank before installing it unless you know it is good.

Picked up 804a and 802a today and looking for advise.

BOTH. IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA (PREFERRABLY OUTSIDE). NO SMOKING. A dry paint brush and compressed air first, then some isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle, paint brush and compressed air.

    MEP 802A Fix-up Thread 3.0

They're not single stud but will get the job done. CAMBION - 957-0847-01-05-16 - Standoffs, hex threaded, 0.256" OD. Package of 25. (electronicsurplus.com)

MEP 802A M8 Percent Load Gauge Issue

Thanks for the clarification on the potting and the high voltages. I had/have not opened one up to check the actual construction, it was just a guess on my part, having seen other types having been potted. I edited my post to "possibly" potted but even that doesn't apply here.(y) One would...

MEP 802A M8 Percent Load Gauge Issue

This picture is a basic explanation This is what a "current transformer" looks like schematically. The windings through the hole in the current transformer would represent the "Primary" winding in the picture and the secondary windings would be the studs at each set of loops. The reason...

MEP 802A M8 Percent Load Gauge Issue

Bopping anything with a rubber mallet isn't going to resolve the problem. Lots of those connections on the terminal strips look dirty/somewhat corroded. I'd follow the schematic, verify the wire number on each winding of the current transformer and make sure they go to their appropriate...
