I'd say it would be well worth fixing up the 802a as long as there's not internal damage. Does the crank rotate?
If it were mine, I'd inspect it closely externally, list the missing parts, then buy a complete gasket set and then go internal.
You could also part it out and more than recoup...
I'd start with the schematic on the door of the unit.
Identify the parts involved in cranking the engine and check the wiring for accuracy and soundness of connections.
If the dead crank switch will engage the starter without the starter dropping out, your problem is not the starter or starter...
Directly underneath that current transformer is a favorite place for mice to build a large nest. Along with that comes their urine and turds. When you pull off the cover, check the cleanliness and tightness of all the connections on the terminal strip below the current transformer.
Start at the fuel tank!!!
I just did one of my generators. I started at the fuel tank and taped the new hose to the old and pulled the entire length of new hose through the bottom routing path.
Then made the fuel tank connection.
Then just worked my way up and around the engine, zip tied as I...
Just a note for anyone who is inexperienced and ventures into changing out one of these water pumps:
The thread on the front of the pulley is LEFT HANDED. RIGHT TO LOOSEN, LEFT TO TIGHTEN.
Meh, I'm not a purist. ;).......and I've got pumps on the shelf.
Having done mechanical work for a living for several years and changed many a water pump, they look as good as any other water pump I've ever used.
Thing is, if one fails here, it's going to get installed and I'll have my set...
Just picked up a couple of these. Seller has 8 more available. They shipped free, included gasket and thermostat housing gasket.
I have no interest in this, just passing along the source for those who might need one or a spare for the shelf.

Yes, I agree, but one cannot go wrong by exercising any switch while cleaning with the set off.
I emphasize this more so for the benefit of those who might not be knowledgeable of the S8 switch. No harm done by adopting a blanket procedure for all switches with the set not running.
Something that should be stressed about exercising the switches on these generators, especially for those who are inexperienced: BE SURE TO DO IT WITH THE GENERATOR OFF, not running.
Well crap! aua Life got busy around here and I lost track of this thread and never got a PM from anyone who had ordered these switches in the past. My how the time has flown by!
Earlier in the thread I committed to three of these switches if a group buy occurred and will still hold to that if...
Agree totally and I would also advise the same.
I've been running all my small engines on 90 octane, non ethanol gasoline for over ten years and have not had a single fuel related problem with any of them.
You WILL need them eventually. Better to have them in a sealed bag on YOUR shelf, handy for replacememt than having to look for them when one springs a leak.
One important concept of being prepared with an "emergency power source" is being able to maintain that source under worst case...
I have a 6530 4WD purchased in 2012.
Honestly, I wouldn't buy another Mahindra, getting parts ( at least for that model ) has been difficult. I also very much dislike the way it was wired. Too much wire ( flimsy wire ) floating in space, not enough thought into routing or clips to fasten to.
I...
I had to do the same fix on a new Mahindra tractor where they routed the positive cable from battery to the starter. It stuck out to me like a sore thumb so I cut and split a short piece of old garden hose and used it as wire loom to protect the cable......6 years so far and all is good...
Yes, I've experienced what you are hearing. Be sure to check out all sources of the case and doors rattling too.
The bearing is actually common and available. Any well stocked bearing supplier should have them.
When I purchased mine, I searched ebay and they happenned to be a couple of hour's driving distance away so I drove and picked them up.
