Current remains the same in a series circuit. The circuit being out of the gen, through your load and back to the gen. Its a simple seris circuit and either hot leg will give you the total current being drawn.
No adding of anything.
Another Welcome from Kentucky!
I don't own any military vehicles (yet?) but do have a couple of MEP803a generators and have found this site to be an invaluable source of information and assistance with them. Lots of great people on all the forums and I'm sure you will find this place to your...
If it were mine, I'd fabricate a piece of metal to attach onto what is remaining, using that one threaded hole and some type of clamp to hold the top.
Where there is a will, there is a way.
Other than that, I'd take the curse off the sharp edge of the break and just shut down manually. Switch...
I do not know of the past problems that have been encountered in the CUCV/Deuce/5 ton sub forums so I cannot comment on that issue but that might be a good start.
Anything that would lead to consolidation of information on different sets and issues would be an improvement.
Having read through...
And your opinion is well taken here....and I agree completely. Thank you for the reminder to all.
I don't know why people try to beat these generators up repeatedly for no good reason. Used as intended, they will pretty much last a very long time and perform well.
I find it similar to...
Agree, my volt meter wasn't working at all in one of my sets. Cleaned up voltage pot and S6 and exercised it and it works perfectly.
If those rotary switches were more element proof, they would be far more reliable.
Picked up my new stators yesterday.......thats right NEW IN THE CRATES. Metered the winding pairs out end to end all @ (.4 ohms) and winding to ground/case. All windings in spec and no shorts to case.
Now hoping for some dry weather to install. Will post pics of progress on disassembly and...
Thanks, just got my spares reoriented correctly, ready for bolt up if ever needed.
Also applied never seize to all the bolt threads. I've had car and truck alternators in the past where every steel bolt was frozen into the aluminum housing requiring much work to get them out. Not going to...
Good setup!
Just so you know, that steel on aluminum combination will corrode over time because of dissimilarity of metals.
The bolt holes will also develop corrosion and elongate. Adding a coating of Noalox will slow down or eliminate the corrosion.
Excellent pictures!!
That is exactly what I was looking for.
Thank You!!
My set has very similar dirt deposits inside, its due for a good but gentle cleaning.
Did you coat the rotor and stators after cleaning the crud off?
Just my opinion but If it were me, I'd get an appropriately rated transformer and attach it on the output to boost the voltage and not run the set above its rated output voltages.
It may cost you a few bucks initially, but what is it going to cost you in down time and repairs if you start...
Agree and I was going to post the same thing but was trying to spur him to break out the schematics.
Mechanical devices are always a good first place to start trouble shooting. That switch sees use every start up.
Reminds me of my instructor in electronics class when we were repairing TVs. He...
There is a color schematic somewhere in these threads that shows the DC circuitry under different conditions, each marked with a different color.
I'd start with that and identify the few components involved in the starting condition ( its marked in green) then check all connections for...
