Picked up another 803a today off the GP auction site. Heading out to Georgia to pick it up on Monday.
Will post pics when I return and pull the cover off to inspect the electronics area.
Will probably keep the better of the two and sell the other to a friend who needs one.
Glad I got my...
I've never heard of a UL listing for either set and doubt there is one. The federal government usually exempts themselves from such things.
I'd be looking into another insurance company if yours is really getting that picky. As long as the connections and devices used to hook it up meet code...
I'd be checking for cold solder joints on everything on the board and reflow anything even remotely suspect, particularly anything in the path of Q3. If the VR board has a terminal strip check those connections first.
Any 30 amp AGC type Buss fuse of the correct dimensions will work, as will any other 30 amp fuse in an appropriate holder. A fuse is a fuse and if a circuit is over loaded and going to blow a fuse, it will blow any fuse rated for the same current.
The only other requirements on fuses is...
Talk about way over priced!! There isn't a terminal strip in the whole universe that is worth $16.00.

A whole pack of them(usually 5 per pack of glass Buss fuses) will be cheaper than another run to the store if it blows again in the future. My philosophy is "two is one and one is none". More parts on hand is always beneficial to some extent.
No need to be embarrassed, that's how we all learn...
Did you use a sealer on the housing? I use Indian Head gasket shellac.
My O'Reilly's only had one thermostat in stock but several of the gaskets. I had him order me three more stats and took home four gaskets with the one stat he had. Cheap enough parts to keep some on hand.
You might be able to look it up if there is a spec sheet on the unit available. If there is a fuse at the battery terminal hook up(which there should be) open it and see what size fuse it is.
Just a note of caution: Any device that is hooked up directly at a battery in any vehicle should have a...
Do the lights come on in time after a shutdown? Is there a thermal breaker in the circuit? Is there a loose ground? Have you checked for short circuits in the wiring harness where it might be chaffing to ground?
These are things I'd check first considering its happening in one of four trucks...
What you are hearing is "alternator whine", it is AC voltage being passed by the alternator due to a bad diode in the alternator. The alternator is not putting out a steady state DC, there is an AC ripple voltage being imposed on it. If you look at the wave form on an oscilloscope you would see...
Excellent!!! A non exposed stainless steel spring will be a great improvement over conventional construction and the silicone stuff is top shelf.
Please keep us updated on the production progress.
I'll feel more comfortable with a couple of sets of hoses on the parts shelf, and thanks for the...
Yes, using the green Prestone. Never had a hose spring dissolve with it in 44 years in either my own vehicles or any vehicle I've worked on in the repair business.
The wear on the springs could also be partly due to "scrubbing" action by the fast and continuous flow through the hoses since...
Field mice are everywhere and will get into everything, EVERY THING!, especially anything that presents a cozy, or insulated, solar heated space. Why the military didn't spec out rodent proof enclosures is beyond any realm of rational thinking. Two worthless mice can/will ruin a million dollars...
