Vehicles using brakes that were designed for those vehicles are fine on the road. But then arguing with trolls who post multiple threads trying to stir things up might be construed as doing something idiotic as well.
For one thing, those aren't HMMWVs. For another, I'd hope most moderately intelligent people wouldn't do something IDIOTIC just because someone else does.
Don't. The vehicle was not designed, engineered, nor meant to tow that kind of weight. You're asking for an accident, at any speed, and a lawsuit that will ruin your life, not to mention the possibility of ending someone else's. I could tow 10k with a Subaru but that doesn't mean it could be...
Just take a look at Adventure Driven's M1079 for any ideas you might need.

The estimate is 4-6 weeks so I've got another 2 to see if that estimate is close. Right now bending over to load the dishwasher is more than I can handle so I'm rooting for the 4 week end rather than 6.
Hopefully I'll be healed up by then. I was a passenger in an auto accident Jan 27 and sustained a deep sternum bruise (feels like I've been kicked in the chest by a mule). Currently can't pick up more than about 5lbs without really feeling it. That makes getting ready a bit tough.
Best advice anyone can give you is - MOVE. The NY legislature has already proven they have no feelings for the sanctity of life so why should they care about your military vehicle. Get out while you still can.
I also have a couple of FMTV door handles. One is in great shape and ready to use, the other needs a little rehab work or just use it for parts. $125 for both.
Since it doesn't appear that anyone has started an actual thread for the BUY/SELL portion of the Rally I'll just do it.
I still have NIB Cab Reinforcement Panels for deuces. $100 and I'll deliver to the Rally. If you want one shipped it was running around $75 last time I shipped one (probably...
I'm back from ID so the shop is officially opened for business again but I'm sicker than a dog so you might want to work alone if you need it for anything.
As many have said, words are not enough. I first read this thread yesterday shortly after it was posted and have been trying to find what to say. I never met Ron but had followed many of his postings and had a few questions answered by him. It says something about a man when his passing can...
My RTT will make the trip one way or the other. The question is whether I have a driveable vehicle before then. The starter is out on both the M37 and the Champ. The 37, I believe, is just "stuck" and would probably be coaxed into working with a couple of love taps of a BFH. The Champ is a...
