Is Ritchie Brothers a registered car dealer in Ca? Being Ca and highly regulated, you would think some state agency or attorney general might put sand in their gearbox....
Driveshaft at ujoint yokes should have zero play/movement I would replace both u joints and the hanger bearing with mount while you have it down. Just my thoughts and possible cheap insurance down the road not to do the same job twice.

you can put a hand on the driveshaft and see if it has play/looseness movement as either a bad u joint or bad hanger bearing should be able to be diagnosed with out it running. Check both front and rear.
U joints on driveshafts or hanger bearings tend to "click". Thumping sounds like a tire out of round or separating belts. Any body vibrations or steering wheel shimmy?
Take your best educated guess. Stamp the data plate and request a new sf97 from gp or you will spin your wheels.......
Even registering in Montana or Vermont or________ will require a date.

It was thought a lower center of gravity with the dual axles would help with the high number of rollovers and accidents the m149 fleet has had. Also the same wheel and tire as the m101a2.
One of your potential challenges is that 16's make the truck sit higher hence the front of the trailer sits higher. Maybe 2-4 inches?
My xm1073 likes the deck level or tilting forward as those double axles act like a seesaw.
Maybe also moving to a taller tire/wheel.
