    Disc Brake Engineering Thread

Well I don't want to argue but every article I have read is to the contrary. I just googled "disc drum brake volume" and they all say disc requires more fluid volume. Perhaps there is something unique about the Rockwell drums and discs that fit but I would be surprised. " Drum brakes will...

    Disc Brake Engineering Thread

Im pretty sure it's the other way around. Disc brakes require more fluid volume than drum. Vehicles with disc in front and drum in rear need a split ratio master cylinder to put more fluid to the discs and less to the drums.

    Rebuilding a air assist unit

Yes same pressure but less piston area on the rod end.... Which equals less force. All single rod pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders will have more force when extending.

Hydraulic Head group buy take two?

Once I found out that the group buy wasnt happening, TNJ Murray sold me (and a couple other guys) one for $300 (new, asian made HH). He didnt have the cheaper "nozzles" though.

    Rebuilding a air assist unit

Left turns will be easier (more assist) with the setup like this, where as right turns would have more assist with it mounted the "normal" way. Probably not too terribly noticable, but about a 100 lbs more force with the cylinder "pushing", rather than "pulling"

M35A3 transmission substitute for higher speed/lower rpm?

Not sure if you wanted to stick with the automatic or not but I spoke with a member in California who put a 6 speed manual Eaton transmission in his m35a3 and said it wasnt too difficult. He hasnt had time to put a thread up on it yet though. Pm me if you want his contact info (btw, just...

Wow that is giant (the picture with you in front makes that obvious)

    Split brake system

right, the trucks (87-89 deuces) dont have a proportional valve but they do have a split ratio master cylinder so more fluid goes to the rear circuit (rear 2 axles) and less fluid to the front circuit (front axle). The valve that many call a proportional valve on these trucks is actually a...

    Split brake system

A pinion brake might be one of the cheapest/easiest ways to get an "emergency" brake if the hydraulic system fails. I just saw the other day that Boyce equipment had a kit in the $300-400 range if I remember correct.

16.00r20 hemitt tire on M35A3 wheels

Keep an eye out for some 395s on mrap rims at GL sites and then just use adapters like these. The fire department should be able to get the tires/rims free through one of the surplus programs (cant remember the name of it off hand) where you are only responsible for shipping costs. I've sold...

Anyone have any info on this Wheel?

Here are some more pics of that mystery wheel that the seller claims is able to fit both varieties of 10 bolt hubs (MRAP and 5 Ton). I still dont know what it came off of nor anything else about it except its maker is Accuride....

    Ø 1-½" Wheel Cylinders

That explains why the dual circuit M35A3 Master cylinders have a different volume split between circuits than the 87-89 M35a2 dual circuit trucks did. Never understood why they did that until now.

Cribbing - May be useful to others

They are a little special. I know they have some extra weight in them due to some full size appliances. They were also built a little cheaper due to their intended use but they were also meant to be supported at the ends when they are not in transit. I think they are a cross between a travel...

Cribbing - May be useful to others

Too bad the agency that wrote that document didnt abide by it when storing all the new and unused FEMA trailers for Katrina..... masses of unused trailers were scrapped due to bent frames from never being supported while stored.

    PEASHOOTER's M109A3 CAMPER Build Thread

Here is what I have for drawings/dimensions for the bumper mods in post 26 & 27. GENERATOR TRAY: I had a sheet metal shop form this for me then I added a few parts to it, mounted it and cut the extra "wedge" shape off the top lip where it mounts to the bumper so it lines up with the angle of...

    PEASHOOTER's M109A3 CAMPER Build Thread

Thanks for the compliments, I spent too much time looking into finding some of the "right" parts to use so hopefully they will help someone else out and save them the time. I sure liked it when people posted part numbers of items I wanted to copy and use (such as the muffler, coolant filter...

    Late Model USAF M35A2C Registry

Yeah the box has a '88 date on it also. I just don't think it was originally made in 88. WScougarx, what are the 2 digits after your KNOE number?... And do the match with the serial on your frame? Do those numbers represent frame year? Thanks

    Late Model USAF M35A2C Registry

My 109a3 is officially an 88, but there just are some items that I question if they were 100% new in 88. Every tag on it has a mfg. date of 1988. However when I overhauled the interior of the van box, it had some indicators that it was "redone" at one point. Most of it had 80's-90's era 3m...

    Dual Circuit Brake Engineering Thread

The stock replacement is about $300, the "upgraded" one would be a hair more since it has a built in differential (failure warning) switch.

    lug wrench ?

Ditto, I got one of these and love it. Prices do range a bit, but I think they are all chinese. Do an ebay search for "Torque Multiplier Lug" and you will end up finding items like this for around $60 and they include the right sockets for the lug nuts and square thimbals (inner dually nuts)...
