    M656/XM757 search

Hi Jon, good to hear from you. I'm looking for whole or cannibalized trucks, tires etc. Less than 500 of these vehicles were made and many parts were designed exclusively for them and haven't been manufactured since the 1980's. I'm tire challenged, the GoodYear version, for example, never even...

The FDC reacts to the viscosity of the fluid and works as long as the viscosity is proportional to the BTU value of the fuel. Biofuels are more dense than diesel, but have lower BTU value, so the FDC compensates "in the wrong direction".

Nice workmanship! Check those valve specs carefully, most won't work well in the environment we are dealing with, so many are made for process control at room temp. "Direct operated" aircraft valves would be my top choice (not to mention motor operated ones)...

Nice engineering work! Got any info on the battery pack? Is the solar charging system disabled when generator is running?

The "factory adjusted" pressure on my xm757 is 2-1/4 psi.

I have permission to reproduce the MVM article here, so here you go (including a picture of the fording handle). Don't have it in pdf format, sorry.

The original pressure regulator looks like this in the TMs. My truck came from the USMC and had this regulator factory installed. The control valve is item 28 in the picture and is operated via the "Fording T-handle" on the passenger side of the dash. I'll look for pictures.

Yes, compared it to temp at intake manifold, where a second thermocouple was installed to show slight intercooler effect (difference was only about ten degrees F). The intake manifold is double walled to help warm intake air when engine coolant is heated by fuel burning coolant heater ("arctic kit).

More fording related details. Compressor air intake is permanently connected to the engine air filter canister. A selector valve (not shown) is manually operated to select pressurization of components or not. When not pressurized, components are vented high on the firewall via copper tubing...

Fine, here was my permanent solution to the crankcase breather "problem" when fording. The idea was to make the truck as fording ready as possible. The breather fumes are filtered and returned to the air intake (ignore the DVM, it was part of a non-related experiment) . The "Crankvent" filter...

Thanks, yes a very useful combination and there are hundreds, perhaps a thousand posts related to it going back over 15+ years on this forum and some 20 articles in Military Vehicles Magazine related to it, not really a "stand alone" thread on the truck itself, I don't think. Lots of stuff...

    special charger for AGM batteries?

Lead acid batteries should always be fully charged, especially in below freezing weather and maintainers are great for this. If they sit for any length of time at a lower voltage, they will begin to sulfate and never regain full capacity. A good way to test the battery is to check the specific...

    Fording Project

Thread brings back old memories of a fun project. Yours truly actually dug his own "fording pit" because there were so few opportunities to test the finished kit. A couple of images. Because the brake drums are not pressurized, an "after fording service" will be required, where everything will...

    Recapping facility id

Thank you, that makes sense, since over 90% of these trucks were serving in the Pershing 1A battalions in Germany. No wonder I couldn't find any info in the US. Schön dank!

    Recapping facility id

Can anyone name the recapping company that uses REOR as an identifier? I have posted the question on a tire forum, but had no luck, so far. Several of the tires on my xm757 have this marking and any help would be appreciated.
