Add oversize permits to the list for road driving, unless you have an ag exemption, maybe!
I've thought about potential problems with sourcing parts for the foreign MVs, but it's my hope that I can work with a machine shop to get duplicates manufactured. I can do the CAD work - just need the...
Thank you for your insight! I could probably take care of items 1, 2, and 4, but for 3? It's going to take me a few years before I attain the rank of Colonel... And my wife most likely won't allow that to happen at home :ROFLMAO:
Thanks for mentioning the broker you used. I'll have to...
@1943ht - can you provide any insight into the customs process based on your experience repatrioting your halftrack? I'm wondering if there's a difference with the halftrack due to its age?
I was looking into importing used M113s and was reading that American-made armor can't be brought back to the US? Yet I can bring former Soviet armor in? :cookoo:
Going back to the start of this thread, I can't figure out why this is a problem to begin with. Was this brought on by someone who was in a crash with a FMV? Was it Green Peace or the Audubon Society about pollution?
I can't ever imagine this happening in NY unless someone commits mass murder...
It has to be easier than removing a fuel tank from my dad's M37. That thing was a bear to get in and out! At least if I have to pull the tank off my deuce I don't have to be under the truck the whole time :)
I've been talking to a mechanic with decades of experience on the Leopard 1 family of vehicles. He gave me these figures on engine fluid capacities, which is a twin-turbo 2280 cubic inch V10 multi-fuel diesel:
Engine oil change: 53 quarts (about 13 gallons or 50 liters) - About $180 15W-40...
Although I've had experience working on my dad's halftrack, I think it has a lot more in common with trucks from the period than fully-tracked vehicles. My dream tank is a Leopard 1 to romp around my property with. But what does it take to maintain one?
Stuff I can think of off the top of my...
Maybe he got it cheap recently? Not everyone knows the current value of their stuff.
The tach could be broken too ;)
(I've never driven a multifuel so I don't know what they sound like at different speeds)
At least it wasn't an M36 😓
Reminds me of a video I saw on YouTube of a guy damaging his M939 something or other ramping four cars to crush them. Eh, their money 🤷♂️
My A3 appears to have an insulated soft top, so it helps keep the heat in the cab on colder days. I'll oil up the top components one day and run the truck with the windshield down like my dad's WW2 jeep!
I just accept that I like driving death traps. I feel safer in a wreck with my deuce than if I were driving my dad's WW2 jeep, but I know it's game over if any of the old trucks I'm driving roll over.
I like wearing seat belts to keep my butt from moving around in the seat when I'm working the...
Question: With other projects I've had in the past, if I doubted what grade bolt was required, I would always get grade 8. Is there a case where I wouldn't want the highest grade possible if I had no idea what was from the OEM? The only thing I can think of is the difference between stripping...
I remember my dad getting a pair of aftermarket windshield panels for his M37. He's only replaced the driver's windshield and he had to modify the new frame a little bit to get it to lock into the windshield frame properly.
How hard would it be to actually fabricate new windshield window...
