Are those plastic hubcaps or just plastic bolt heads? 42 bolts on each wheel! Well 38 on the front. You have wasps or mud dobbers or something in the spindle holes.
Why are the shackle mounts behind the face of the rear wheels? That is why i ask about being hubcaps.

Their not hubcaps, their wheels I can assure you. The bolts are just for design, it is not a beadlock by any means. Not trying to pass them off as them.
Look up the wheels online (Black Rhino makes them).

I unsuccessfully tried to get mine off today. My motor is just noisy as all get out, and I suspect it's just like everyone else's, but I wanted to isolate it from the cage and hear it by itself before condemning it. This method was perfect except that I can't get the squirrel cage off the shaft. The allen screw is 100% removed. AND it's as frozen either way so I am about to cut the shaft off and get new parts. I was expecting a slide off, and it's frozen on there good. I tried kroil and heat to no avail. I did move it about 1/2, but I think I have about 3/8 of an inch to go (its now flush with the shaft retainer on the squirrel cage. Anyone got any suggestions? . I am not married to this so cutting is rising to the top...

I'm still trying to figure out how the studs and tiedown bracket are behind the face of the wheel. Are the wheels 3" thick in the middle? Or have a back side that bolts to the spindle, and a front side that we see?

Yup. $35 plus shipping for the aftermarket ones (Four Seasons 35552) is cheapest, some on there for like $80, supposedly these are way quieter.

I finally got the motor separated, but totally blew out the squirrel cage. Luckily the auction site had one of those too. I took the fan apart and the bearing were a little worn, so lube didn't help it that much. Brushes were ok, so a replacement on the way.

The rear wheels has the center mounted / hub mounted "tie down" bracket on it (the front does not).
The current wheels are thicker then the stock wheels so the bracket is now "inside" the wheel as where on the stock Humvee wheels they sit flush with the dish of the wheel.

The plan is to space them out eventually so it doesn't look so "hokey" so to speak, but all in time my friend...

My first ever and new to me 1989 M998 4 man arrived late last night, after waiting what felt like forever for a transporter to grab it...after all the pre operation checks I went on a short hop. No issues as of now. I am already thinking a 4L80E upgrade....outside of my skill level.

My roof rack project is Slowly coming along. I should have this one buttoned up by the weekend. I still need to figure out a mount for my pioneer kit as well as my power lift jack. I’m also putting a little lockable storage up there.

Looks pretty darn good!!!

PS: The only thing that I noticed are the sharp corners on the triangle piece. Maybe round up the sharp corners??

They aren’t actually welded in yet. They are just sitting up there to see if the star looks cool or not. As unlucky as I am I can’t afford to have sharp stuff close by!

Today I learned that a HMMWV has at least one part cross-comparible with a Geo Metro. Gates 21781. It seems their coolant system has a common fitment... Who knew?

As you can tell, I'm working on coolant line replacement. The Gates part was $12 delivered vs $25 delivered for the AM General part.

Went to Black Rino web site. They look good could almost pass as the 24 bolt rims. Which ones are they 12 or 9.5 Armory. They appear to have less back spacing.

A wheel adaptor from the eight studs that the Humvee has down to five or six that those wheels may have might account for what you are thinking about.

Never knew a aftermarket wheel on this forum would cause so much grief.
They are not hubcaps. They are not 6 bolt wheels adapted to the truck . No wheel adapters are being used.
Look at the pictures below. The wheel is bolted to the stock / OEM hub with Eight8 lugs just like the stock wheel.

The Six(6) larger bolts are just for show and have nothing to do with mounting , and are nothing more then decoration. They are part of the wheel and can not be removed.
The "screws" around the perimeter are just the same, just their for show / design.

Hope this helps some of you sleep at night.
