Whens the last time you did a filter change on this machine? Does it have the inline strainer just south of the inlet on the primary pump? I was once chasing what I thought was a droop concern... turns out that stupid little filter was the cause!
Well I am not sure what the lift spec is on the primary pump, but I do know they rate the aux pump as good for a 72" grade difference (and it very well might be the same pump, without looking at the TM). How many hours are on your machine? Its possible your pump is tired.
Sometimes tank trash doesnt show until after the system has been sucking for a bit. The offending frag can get sucked to the fuel source and plug it, only to dislodge when vacuum is removed. If you get a different functioning pump in place and you still find flow issues, look there and for any...
Yes it does sound bad. The pump runs continuously. I have used this pump with success: https://www.amazon.com/Airtex-E8131-Universal-Electric-Fuel/dp/B0027I1N0Y in both primary and auxiliary positions. You will need to just add your own connector.

Search LISTER PETTER ONAN DN4 DIESEL ENGINE on eBay. You will see a group called Adelmans has (2) nonturning engines in stock. This company does not have an excelent reputation, but its a start.
You will need something to take up the slack of any sized belt. Leaving the dead one in place, and disconnecting the leads, is the easiest way. But there may be some small efficiencies to note by removing the drag. I am just not sure it would be enough to document outside of lab testing.
We will see how it goes. As I am using it, it will always be in that operating range (and be powered down when the set is running). Its better than nothing if your alternator does fail... I am sure it will get you through, as the air is replenished constantly in the machine while running.
