The mule "parts" that I went to look at turned out to be a pretty good looking A2. I've decided not to part it out, but will put an engine in it and get it running later this summer when I get a break from customer work. Sorry!
You've picked probably the two hardest parts to find! Bill and I have discussed building repordiction engine guards, and that's still ongoing.
I was buying the M274A1 guards from Bill and modifying them to look like A5 guards, but I think Bill's out of the A1 guards now. Here's the last one...
No litter kit, the litters are just placed across the side rails, which is probably as good, or better than, the actual litter kit.
What's neat about that photo is in the background, you can see part of the two ASP's (Amphibious Supply Platform) that were tested at APG in 1962. Two versions of...
It's a good idea to pull this plug once a year to let any accumulation drain out. Not unusual to see a little oil drain out, but it should not be much. Bad axle seals will let the gear oil into the flywheel, bad rear crankshaft seal will let engine oil in.
Thanks, I remember these data plates now. Different than anything else I've ever seen. That's a real early engine for sure. I really think think this may have been one of the early mockups that Baifield did, possibly as an attempt to get the A2 contract. You've got a jewel there, don't let her...
I don't think I would want to build another one. I have a bunch of mule work lined up that will take me through the middle of the year. I sold the mount to David Kelone, so you might check and see if he still has it. It's not very practical, and really limits the operation of the mule, but it...
Your mule may be something special, possibly an A2 prototype. The M274A2 was a standard production mule, no conversions, built by Bowen-McLaughin-York in 1965/66. When the M274 was upgraded to the 2-cylinder, it was re-taged as an M274A3, and the M274A1 became the M274A4. All my research says...
Some of you guys have helped me in the past, and I thank you. For the new mule owners, I have beed collecting mule information for my database, and have over 500 entries. If you would like to send me your information, I would appreciate it. I need Manufacturer's Serial Number, Registration...
Several years ago, I looked for a litter kit, but was unable to find one. Using the drawings from TM 9-2320-246-20P, I built a copy of the kit.
With the seat removed and the steering wheel folded down, the mule can carry 4 litters.
I finally sold the litter kit because it was really in the...
No matter what I try to do I keep coming back to this page. I'd love to contribute to the mule board, but I find this site just too hard to use. Sorry.
Jerry, I don't have any mules here right now with fenders. Maybe Nick or some of the other guys who own mules with fenders will jump in with measurements for you, or you might try to post your question on the G503 mule forum. Left (driver's side) fender is one piece, right (pass side) is 2...
Clinto, transmission output shaft uses two seals, front differential input (pinion) shaft uses only one seal. Either clean the old felt washer and reuse it, or leave it out all together, no matter.
The best way to check the timing is exactly the way Bill shows on his web site. If your belt guard is missing, you don't have any timing marks, but you can still tell if the mag "clicks" when the crankshaft pully mark is in about the 2:00 position.
To answer your orignal question, yes, both...
