ethanol gas additive and the mule

PFC W told me that they use aviation gasoline in all the vehicles in the museum, he says it does not break down during long term storage. Somebody posted on the G503 that ethanol will attract water over a period of time....that's the last thing we need in vehicles that don't burn a tank of gas...

    Thinking about buying a mule

"all the way up tp 6500 for something pristine" Try $14,000 for pristine, $6500 would be a good mid-range price! Just keep your eye open, deals are out there, but be careful that you don't by a $1800 mule and then spend $5000 on it!

    Thinking about buying a mule

If you are planning to use it as an everyday work mule, I would suggest that you look for an A5 model. Just keep in mind that they are 40 year old machines. Look for rusted right frame tubes, missing basket/controls, damaged steering linkage, etc. Mules are very popular right now and a good A5...

    Mule registration Numbers Help?

Well, for whatever reason, I could not get the 4 and 2 cylinder bellhousing photos on the last post, so I'll try again.

    Mule registration Numbers Help?

You can see in the two photos below, the starter mounting area on the 4-cylinder mules are different than the 2-cylinder mules. Actually, the pull starter on the 4-cylinder engines was built into the flywheel and there was no externally mounted recoil unit like the 2-cylinders. There's no teeth...

    Mule registration Numbers Help?

Thanks....I would bet it's 1968....Baifield built mules from 1965 to 1969, but your serial number fits August, 1968

    Mule registration Numbers Help?

poof, thanks for posting your numbers. I can't read your data plate, but your numbers fit right into my database as a Baifield Ind. M274A5 built in July or August 1968 under contract DA-20-113-AMC-07129 (T). M274A5 Baifield Industries 11118 325412 July 11, 1968 DA-20-113-AMC-07129 (T)...

    Mule registration Numbers Help?

As far as I know, the mule is the only vehicle that has the U.S.A. Registration Number stamped on the data plate. In the photo of the A2 data plate below, the U.S.A. Registration Number stamped at the top right is the number that would be painted on the side of the mule. It will be the same...

    Mule registration Numbers Help?

I know it says A2, but I THINK you have an M274A3, which is an M274 that had the AO-4-53 4-cylinder engine removed and the AO-42 2-cyllinder engine installed. I have never been able to detrermine who did the conversion work or what the contract number was, but it could have been Baifield...

    Mule registration Numbers Help?

Something's screwey with your data plate. Baifield Industries only built the A5 models from 1965 to 1969, under contract #DA-20-113-AMC-07129 (T) Are you sure it's an A2? Mfg should be Bowen-McLaughen-York I don't have anything in my data base that matches the numbers you list. Maybe this will...

    Need battery box PLEASE!

OK, we got this sorted out and I will get a battery box out to BigMike next week. Just a communications mixup. By the way, I rarely check this board, I find it too hard to use, so if you are looking for me, I go as Chuck W. on the G503 mule board. Thanks.

    Need battery box PLEASE!

Big Mike - I don't know if you talked to me or not, memory is shot. I make a battery box that bolts under the bed with T-bolts, no drilling required. I don't have any made up right now, but if you need one, I'll see what I can do. It is made to hold a Wal-Mart 540/450 75-5S side-post battery ...
