We have overzealous moderators that like to make trouble, because those words do appears in the terms of service on the site. It is what it is, we have to adapt. I don't agree with, but I don't foot the bill of the site (well wait, I kind of do as a supporter...)
Well if it cleared up to a very light haze, I'd say you are doing pretty good (seeing as there is no emissions equipment on these). The key with the 803s... patience. Good luck!
Welcome to SS. What exactly is happening when you lose output... do you notice any fluctuation in RPMs? Is this under heavy load, no load, or what condition?
Depending on how often you trailer, if the surge is giving you fits there is a cross hole through it that you can use a long bolt through to 'lock out' the brakes (especially handy if you are trying to back the thing up an incline...). I wouldn't use less than Grade 8 personally for the bolt...
And to the OP, have you had this machine fully loaded for testing purposes? The dark smoke could very well be due to top end wet stacking that is burning off... or it could be something else. Let us know more about how you have seen this machine run before (or if you havent). Won't hurt to throw...
And more of a PITA if you have a trailered set. At least with the genset only, you can put a block under the radiator fill side to tilt the machine to help.
For anyone that might need some temporary power solutions, Northern Tool is running a promo on their spider boxes right now https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/category_generators+generator-accessories+generator-power-distribution+cep+on-sale
Up and above that, they are offering gift cards...
I would post here and see if anyone is interested in quoting on it through SS https://www.steelsoldiers.com/forumdisplay.php?133-Request-a-quote or here https://www.steelsoldiers.com/forumdisplay.php?67-Transportation-Needs
You are going to pay through the nose because its on wheels, no getting around it. Uship is a joke for getting GOOD quotes. I have routinely found that the prices are either absurdly low (and they will not honor) or extremely high with no rationale. I use uship for genset shipping only, not...
You owe it to yourself to do an amp load calculation on your 'must run' items, to determine a baseline. All the machines should have data plates/stickers on them which show how much power they actually use. Tally that up and let us know. Then you move down the line from 'needs' to 'wants'.
No an 803 should support 26A per leg. If you are getting smoke... is this new? Have you had the machine at full rated output for any extended time? Could be wet stacking remnants burning up.... not an uncommon thing from its previous life. Any sign of creosote runout from the exhaust flange...
