Back when I had my 002, I had a couple wires with alligator clips fabbed up for just that. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Gardner-Bender-2-Pack-Plastic-Standard-Wire-Connectors/4582329
Thats one thing I remember you posting a while back... parts shown in the -24P that have the classification of PAOZZ means its not a stocked or separately ordered part, with no choice but scavenge for availability.
If you are still in the market, exactly what you want is on the big auction site right now. Use the search term 'generator mounting rails mep-802a mep-803a'
The spin on filter mods are really needed on those older sets, not only for easy of maintenance, but also for better filtration (and better availability). I almost did it to my 002, but twas sold off before I could.
How long were you overloading in this manner? The set does have burden resistors, to do the heavy lifting. Seafoam is excellent stuff, if you have never run it. Just dump a whole can in the tank and give it ****.
Yes 16 is too much to ask of this genset. While Lister does rate the LPW4 for 18.7kw @ 1800rpm, thats not going to work in these sets (http://www.lister-petter.com/p/power-water-solutions/4/lp-range/1/engines/16/lpw4). You could always wire the elements differently. For example my load bank has...
What does the exhaust look like? If it has trouble recovering, you might want to run some Seafoam through the set, and let it rip at full rated load (or close to it) for a few hours. Will help clean up the entire combustion system. Then retest and see if she takes the load better.
I am going to go with a Beede 947886 from the big auction site. The rear posts look more appropriate for this application (and it ships with a bridge, should the stock unit not work... wasn't true of the Marpac). $32.77 out the door.
The terminal sizes are correct and present, but they are not aligned in a way which would work with the aluminum bridges the standard gauging uses. Just going to cost me some freight, but a good learning experience for the thread. Here is what the back of the gauge looks like, for those interested:
