    mep 803 WHY?

But I will take that back I HAVE paid $5k (after all fees and what not) for an 803A last year. Past my normal gensets that I go through, I do offer strategic sourcing of units against customers wishes. I had a guy from ME come to me looking for his "ideal" machine, and I got it for him.

    mep 803 WHY?

I would not pay $5k for an MEP-803A, but I would argue that it is worth every penny of that money.

    60KW genset phase quandry

Its not going to be cheap, but there should be a 3ph to 1ph inverter available for just such a situation... not feasible for homeowners to deal with the price tag though.

    Need 803 parts, crankshaft bolt.

Just spoke with him not 10 days ago on something. That's too bad. http://main.pughfuneralhome.com/tribute/details/11046/William-Delk/obituary.html

    Generator suggestion

Yes sir. Anyone with a casual understanding of what that is, and how utterly dependent our world has become on electricity (food production & delivery, fuel infrastructure, medicines, pumping water, waste removal, nuclear power plant safety, etc), should have very similar fears. I like to...

One step forward, two steps back

I know the oil seal I got was $17 shipped (versus upwards of $100+ through official Onan channels). Same part.

I'll have to look at that auction site. Thanks

I remember that thread. Everyone has different needs, which makes this so much fun. I personally have structured my life so we require little power (or much less than many folks), because I do have long term concerns about the infrastructure of this country failing (either by space weather, lack...

    Generator suggestion

I am glad I don't have high power requirements. The 005 uses 2.6gph (which really isnt that bad in the grand scheme)... but thats a LOT of fuel to keep on hand for true long term power concerns. Edit: Actually I think that was liquid cooled, if I take the time now. I think the 005 is closer to...

Have you ever considered a supplemental heat source for this property (like a wood stove)? That would allow you to not have to run all of your heating elements (or almost none if you size the stove right), and put you well back into MEP territory?

One step forward, two steps back

Finally got around to buying the seal to do this job in the next few weeks. I know there is a gasket behind the cover... suppose I will only kick myself if I try to reuse it. Seems this is the best price I can find on it...

    The sickness is real..

This sounds like as good a deal as this guys unit (pictures taken from Providence, RI Craigslist) Who would pay $2400 for such a hack job? Oh wait, seemingly a lot of folks (considering GP recent history). I still have a hard time rationalizing peoples choices...

    The sickness is real..

Yeah that sounds like buying a can of beans taped back closed... its your money. You might be able to get it going and be happy with it... you might find its the project from ****, and you pass it forward because all it needs is a 'flywheel bolt'. YMMV.

A real cute little toy... how do I spin my need for this to the wife?

Or if you know what your largest draw items are in your home... go look at their manufacturer data plates. All appliances have them, that deliniate volts, amps, watts, etc. Easy to convert between two of three, to figure out total consumption. Based on your location, and the fact that you are...

    802A history

Some locations remove the data plate as part of the decomissioning. I have an 802 just like that, and at best you will find a date stamp on a part (like a door) to give you a ballpark idea of when it was manufactured. Past that... if the tags gone, its like it never existed.

    Fram CH6PLfor 003a/002a only $.50 at TSC!!!

I just looked at my local store, and $5.99 is the number.

    Nato slave charger cable

Very true, but like someone else in the thread mentioned... no different than any other battery charging 'in the open'. You could mitigate this concern with making a couple step-ups on the L and R sides, and screw down a piece of clear lexan or something over the tops of the terminals. You would...

    Nato slave charger cable

Looks nice. Care to provide a breakdown of what you did, should others want to rig up something similar?
