My deuce had all of the transmission to transfer case shaft bolts loosened, but not removed when I got it. It had come from GL a few weeks before by another previous owner. The shaft looked original to the truck, just as if someone was in the process of removing it, then stopped midship.
I...
Re: RE: Battery terminal meltdown
Absolutely DO NOT use a torch anywhere near a battery!!! Charging batteries generate hydrogen gas. Think Hindenburg........Also you should never use acid core solder for anything electrical.
Bottleworks, I have only been here at SS a short time and by no means am I a noob when it comes to vehicles or their inner workings. I feel that there are folks who seem to think that anyone who doesn't know all they know are somehow a bit beliow them or are a nuciance. Did you come into this...
POR 15 is a good product when applied as directed....I used it on my M715 interior after taking it to the bare metal. I painted OD over it and it has held well. However, I painted the floor with it, then allowed it to dry, and applied roll-on bedliner over it. It came off in several days. The...
I looked at a many a deuce at GL over the last 6 months, and personally inspected about 8 of them nearby to me.
Almost none of them were as represented by GL.
They all were listed as "running" or "driven in." Only 2 looked as if they could be driven out, and that was if you didn't need...
Kinda off-topic, but I know that cadmium plating and the such is done for rust preventative, but does it also provide a lubricating property to some degree?
I almost always use a very light oil on the thread of anything I torque, particularly head bolts, and engine components.
Thanks for all the great info....I think I do want to keep the hitch as high as possible and the biggest thing I plan to tow at this point anyway would be a full size pickup or maybe my M715. This truck sees about a 50/50 split of road and off-road. I don't want anything else to have to dig...
I'm in Orange County and there are two deuces around the area I've seen running around. One has Farm Use tags on it and the other is tagged and I see him on RT20 between Orange and Gordonsville fairly regularly.
There's also an M715 I've seen in the area too on occasion. I can never seem to...
That's the idea.....I thought about the universal type of Reese hitch, but I really haven't took the tape measure out yet to check the height of it vs the height of the trailer.
The M715 and J series trucks really only share a bit of sheetmetal here and there. THe frame, running gear and most of the body are completely different.
If it has M715 bodywork on a J series frame, that would be a bit of a step backward in strength, but a step up for driveability. Lots of...
At some point I will be installing a receiver hitch on my Deuce so that I can pull a regular flatbed trailer. Does anyone have any pics of their setup?
Just looking for a few ideas before I begin fabbing and welding. Looks like it will need to be a considerable drop from the frame rails to a...
If you get the SF97 in your name you can go directly to the DMV and get a title in VA. They print it on the spot.
They (SF97) are not transferrable from one owner to another here in VA.
Usually it sits right in front of the house. Here's where I "stored" it for about 3 hours one afternoon until I dug enough to free the winch cable from between the bumper and the ground:
Crimp connections almost always fail and the blue things are called "Scotchlocks" If they even get damp they generally fail soon thereafter. Trailer manufacturers seem to be very fond of them.
Solder and waterproof heat shrink always!!!!
