I think I would want to know for sure that the multi has a real problem before embarking on transplant surgery.
For starters, I would do the preventative maintenance it needs, load it up (5 tons of sand or gravel or whatever) and run it long and "hard"...
Perhaps a good start would be to state that the brakes on your truck are hydraulic in function, with air to assist with the pedal effort. Losing air assist does not mean you are losing the brakes. You will be limited in how hard you will be able to apply the brakes without air assist.

This is interesting. As I have learned, the fast way to find correct TDC on the multifuel is to take off the oil filler cap and when the crank pulley is on the TDC mark the # 2 exhaust will be open. When you look down the oil filler opening it will be the valve just to the front of the cap hole...
