Thanks, dstang. Both batteries are good, as well as the glow plugs. I was hoping it wasn't the starter. Going to let the block heater cook for a bit, then try 'er again.
Alright, Gents; here's the problem: Last week I was TDY to sunny Florida and unfortunately had to let the M1009 sit here in Iowa in temps between 0-15 F. Now it won't start. It turns over fine, but seems to weaken as I keep the key turned. I purchased a block heater (the magnetic kind) and...
Check the wheel bearings! Roll both windows down and drive as close as you can to a privacy fence or center divider...anything that will reflect the sound into the cab for you to hear. Listen for grinding/clunking. All you should hear is the even moan of your tires and the engine.
Thought I'd chime in with a light related option, though it won't be avaliable to you non Air Force AFREP types. Our F-16's are going though a series of upgrades out here. One upgrade is the installation of a newer, cooler taxiway light. The 'old' lights have a 250W bulb and run on 28 VDC. They...
Oh! I almost forgot. Is it possible to press/hammer the caps into the ears too far? I realize that with a hydrolic press that I'm using some serious pressure and could crush the whole thing, ears and all, if I wanted to; but if I leave 1/4" of cap out of the ear can I hammer it in too far...
I think what I'll do is use the press to remove the joint. Last time I cut the joint in half with the plasma cutter (I'm a rookie, it seemed easier), but from what you guys have told me; the press (and it's a top-notch piece of equipment) is going to be the best way to avoid damaging ears...
Starting to make sence. I'll give the other side a try this weekend. Worst case, I still have access to that press. Thanks for the info! This truck will turn me into a mechanic, yet!
So you're saying secure the shaft, place a socket over the cap and strike while the joint is still connecting both pieces of the shaft? Wouldn't that damage the other ears of the shaft? Sorry, this is the first time I've ever attempted this and I dont' want to damage anything....I can swing a...
Yes, clips removed. CUCV85, not familiar with a 'hot wrench'. And what type of socket are you talking about? As I said above, I have the means to cut and press, but if I could do this in my own garage, I'd be happier.
Well, after my front axle problem and wheel bearing replacement, I decided to take everything apart and inspect my work. Not that I don't trust myself, but as our Quality Assurance sections says: "In God we trust....all others we test, check, inspect and verify." Everything I replaced looked...
This just happened to me two weeks ago, but it was the inner front bearing that fell apart. If the bearing is holding the rotor on, use the rotor as sort of a hammer to pop the whole assembly off. Your spindle (that's what the bearings sit on) can probably be salvaged, and you shouldn't hurt...
Sounds like you need a new wiper motor, if it is slow/struggling at all settings. You can pull one out of any K5 blazer at a junkyard for cheap. I'm sure replacement is in the manuals.
Have any of you guys installed a tachometer or an engine temp guage in your M1009/M1008? I'd like to monitor both measurements, but am not sure where to find guages that would install or how to wire them.
Kind of hard to get stuck in the mud with them, so I couldn't justify buying a new winch to the wife :p. They're smoother than I expected on pavement, and actually pretty quiet. We'll see how they do on ice in a few months, but overall, I'm very happy with them.
