Though its not a CUCV and not a 6.2, my 82 silverado has 32"s on it with 3.08 ratio. City mileage sucks and highway is good as long as you dont have a head wind. you wont have the torque to over come the force of the headwind and your speed will suffer. Your ability to climb inclines...
Jeff, the 5ton wrecker i use to drive had and X on the ID plate.. XM816
perhaps the 2.5ton is a mis-type or mis-ID or something.. thats definately a 900 series 5ton.
at one of the post we do drills at, they had a set mounted to a fastback that said police on it, that was suppose to be put in the back of a pickup, but it was on the ground... If its there the next time i go... i might have to contact someone as by the time i see it again it will have been...
i agree, for long hauls a military truck isnt the best route.. in the mtn of colorado i have seen people put tanks in the beds of 5tons and deliver water (most houses in the mtn around SW CO that i have seen have wells and not city water).. so people always need water. rain or shine and most...
ad in local truck trader had 4 hmmwv tires with 95% tread with wheels (however they werent pictured and didnt specify if they were hmmwv wheels or not) for $400... anyone local interested?...
except in military convoys i have always driven the CUCVs down the highway doing the speed limit.. I believe the 55 speed limit has more to do with the slowest vehicle.. CUCVs and HMMWVs can go faster than 55, however i know the 5tons have a hard time.. my wrecker would top out at 57...so like i...
they should fit as far as i know, they fit 1tons... however, the back spacing may be a tab much for your truck unless its a dually.. which would convert your dually to single rear wheel and look a bit funny with the fenders on it... www.usa6x6.com has recentered hmmwv wheels...
or you could use a small piece of chain or rope and put it through the recovery/lift shackle on either end of your rig. It is meant to hold the weight, i doubt a stock bumper could atleast very many times.
if i remember correctly you can run without the proportioning valve that is above the rear axle, but if you are using the truck to haul water you may want if after all... civilian trucks had them also, not all just some... so they are out there and available, possibly from chevy dealer.
