I dont know how much you plan on loading these down, but as far as the 8 lug wheels go, our Ambulance Hmmwvs run the biased tires with 8 lug rims, and they weigh more than the standard Hmmwv. Never had a problem with them.
i find that they like to flame those that are a bit new to the hobby.... a much better site is www.67-72chevytrucks.com they have a VERY active 73-87 as well as a blazer and 4x4 forum...
News station was doing some coverage on a grass fire and i saw a gama goat go by with one guy driving and one guy in the back.. it was a volunteer FD and it was only a glimpse.. couldnt see any special equipement but it was just a glimpse.. thought it was cool...
I never had to lift tow a vehicle with my wrecker.. however I saw a wrecker operated for another unit attach the towbar to the broke truck, then just use the crane to life it up. Rear overhang wasnt an issue. Perhaps it wasnt the right way to do it, but it worked.
