Hi all,
I wanted to give everyone an update since everyone talked up the Behr paint so heavily and I went ahead and bought some for experimenting. I left a similar post on a different thread here.
To conclude thus far:
The Premium Plus is the least expensive, the least glossy/the most flat...
Careful there. Behr house paint has nowhere near the same performance as something like an industrial or automotive paint (Sherwin CARC being one example). CARC paints are polyurethane-based, whereas Behr is a 100% acrylic. Not quite the same. I went ahead and played around with the Behr paint...
Has anyone considered or tried doing a flat Premium Plus and then going over with something like Rustoleum Dead Flat Clear? I am planning to try this out on a test surface. It would be nice to be able to keep the zero-sheen of the flat but also be very durable.
Damn...you are right about the Premium Plus being flatter. I just called Behr to verify. I think for my case the added durability of the "flat" Dynasty will be worth it though.
I just called Behr to ask them about using e500 vs Dynasty. They said there's nothing better than Dynasty currently as far as durability goes. Especially the 10-year guarantee against UV fading.
Well I think it goes without saying it's not going to feel exactly like CARC. CARC is a polyurethane and also has chemical resistant additives(unsure if that affects texture). It's also typically sprayed with a conventional spray setup where BEHR is a latex paint and many people here brush or...
I pulled up some datasheets. I wanted to look and see if in fact you're right that the cheaper Behr Premium has better flatness than what is supposed to be Behr's flagship product, Marquee(well now they have Dynasty...it just came out within the couple of years).
BEHR Masonry Exterior Flat:0-6...
Crud. So it turns out a gallon kit for custom tint RAPTOR will be about $269...not that much cheaper than authentic Sherwin CARC which I was quoted around "not much more than $300" for (1 gallon of the topcoat + hardener and catalyst) for.
I didn't think it would come to this but I think Behr...
Well sir, if you insist. I'm going to post what I found in here for future folks because I had to look through all 10 pages worth of threads(searched "texture") and shit was tedious.
I still think a custom matched Raptor Liner could be a great affordable alternative to CARC and while it may...
Well I'd definitely get the "flat" liner and not the typical type with tons of large pebble-like additive in it. Planning to use it to paint the frame and plastics of a KLR650.
