Are these normal brakes on the M1009?

So it sounds like it is a good idea to check pads often to avoid rotor damage. Pad preference anyone. I like to put the bast pads in to avoid having to do it too often- Raybestos is probably the best? Anyone have a better pad to recommend or a part number?

Are these normal brakes on the M1009?

I have put in all my brakes since 1977. I have not run across pads like the ones I see on the Blazers in this forum. They look like a royal PITA. If I take my Blazer in for brakes instead of tackling them myself: Will the brakes guys know what to do? Will they get all the right parts? Will...

    Bed liner in m1009?

I have been considering this for my M009. I have a M1008 type pick-up that has been lined. I used the SEM kit. It comes with lots of product, a shutz gun and mixing cups. It can also be tinted. I used the Gillespie 383 OD and shot it out of a drywall hopper gun from HF. The tinted mix was to...

no start / will start with a sniff of either

I agree with DANL. I had something similar happening in my Blazer and saw a pattern of it happening whenever I parked for very long facing uphill. When I backed in and faced downhill I never had the problem. Months later when changing in new glow plugs I still had this problem. A question here...

    Cargo area panels- Blazer

Blazer Cargo panels- NOW WITH PICTURES! I mentioned this new project in WHYDL but I thought it may make a good thread to get more ideas. I obtained panels from a wrecking yard civvy Blazer. Made mods to accommodate my speaker boxes. Covered them with some new Milspec OD waterproof canvas- very...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I was at the wrecking yard last week looking for a spare mount. Ran across a number of civvy Blazers so I went scavenging. All had the power gates- but the widows were down. I managed to open the access panel and used my portable power driver to wind the cable and open the window. Also ran...

Recommend a cleaner for CARC paint?

I was at a full service car wash. The guy doing the final hand dry was spraying some stuff from a yard sprayer on the paint behind the fender wells. It smelled like lighter fluid. He told me it was Naptha- same stuff. Home Depot has it in the paint dept. I have been using it to remove stubborn...

    starting issues

Use battery cables to supply juice directly to the starter- with starter mounted to simulate load. If you are having the same problem, then look at the grounding strap between the engine block and firewall. Add a 10g wire from the starter bolt that holds the starter support bracket and the...

    M1009 won't start, just clicks

The group 31 batteries go in; but you have to switch to new flat lugs. The upside is that they are fat on and off if you use a coupling nut instead of a bolt. I try to post a pic tomorrow.

Nice scare on the freeway...now what happened?

What would be a step up from the stock ratio? I would not mind running another 10-15 MPH faster without sweating a catastrophe. How had a job is it to switch gearing?

    M1009 Receiver Hitch

If you have a U-pull it wrecking yard, I'd go there. I find the good hitches already off the truck sometimes where someone wanted the gas tank or bumper. CHeap; but ask first to avoid that rip-off feel.

    On abandoning your vehicle:

We have wandered away from the purpose of the OP. If you can know, through impeccable maintenance, that your vehicle will not break down, good for you. I tend to keep an eye on my hunting rig through the year so I can address all the things that are in need of attention well before I leave on a...

Can you convert the M-80 mic to work with a CB?

I have figured out (I think) the first two, the other two I am not sure about. The mics were taken apart but the Cobra mic is a confusing circuit board.

    On abandoning your vehicle:

Skinny, sounds like you have everything that you need. I have had the same 73 C20 3/4T Chevy since it rolled off the line. I still drive it today. The carb went bad once in all that time. Unfortunately I was out at the time and I was still able to fix it with limited tools. You said: Before...

Can you convert the M-80 mic to work with a CB?

In my OP I forgot to add the specifics of the mics I am trying to mod. I have a CB that is the Cobra 4-pin type and I want to transfer the Cobra mic connector onto the end of the M-80 C/U mic/handset. I don't know which wires from the mil set would go to the mic connector and where. Please help...

    On abandoning your vehicle:

OK, some of you are blessed with vehicles that cannot break down. Others cannot fathom actually traveling into the woods without a wingman. I will tell you though that you don't have to be 100 miles from a phone or parts store to be "stranded". I have become stuck in the sticks with my hunting...

Can you convert the M-80 mic to work with a CB?

I have converted the LS-671/VRC Speaker to plug into my CB. Since it has a nifty little mic clip in front, I thought I would like to convert the mic that hangs there (or could) to work with the Uniden (4pin) CB I am using. Has anyone heard of this?

    On abandoning your vehicle:

I have, so far,[knock wood] been very lucky about not having to abandon my vehicle to seek help (walk out). Last time we had known issues was in my friend's Jeep with a stick, so I reminded him to park facing downhill, if his starter would not crank in the morning we could roll start it- it...

what do you use for outback comms?

Wow, lots of opinions on what is best here. I did primarily want to be able to get help incase of a breakdown. I wiould hate to have to leave my vehicle and expensive gear while I walk out for help. Having said that, a breakdown way well mean having no juice to run a mounted radio. So in...
