I have been drawing hunting tags for some remote places in my state. I have been considering a SAT phone rental... just in case.
Recently I read about the FCC or some other agency refusing to prosecute an unlicensed radio operator for using a VHF radio. He apparently used it call for help...
I did find the culprit a few months after posting this. The fuel line above the fuel pump had a slice in it. I have no idea how it got there; but it was allowing air in, which because there was no longer a vacuum in the fuel line created the drainback condition.
If you can't get the rig to...
RED_506, I don't have AAA for my auto or homeowners, I just heard about the best tow coverage from the tow driver as I settled in for one of the costlier rides I have taken. He said that they did get calls for tows where the driver had just bought it over the phone. Impressed, I called AAA the...
:ditto: If you can't get it going with field repairs, have a good towing policy. I learned from the last tow truck driver to haul me home: AAA has the best tow coverage. AND... You can call or go online, buy the premium tow package that gives you one 200 mile tow and multiple 100 tows annually...
After over a year of intermittent Clacking when I turn the key in my Blazer, I have finally learned what may be the ailment for so many of us.
I tried replacing: starters (3), Starter solenoids (4), Starter Relays- after the Doghead Mod (4), most of the ignition circuit wiring- including the...
My transmission used to slip in most gears. I put a new filter in it and it was no better. Then I drained it and used F-type transmission fluid- my wife's Cougar uses it. I have not had any more slippage. From a dead stop on a hill, I can put in in drive/rev and it goes. Try it.
I like the fender mounted jack. I would weld a 1/2" stud to the ribs and then get a locking lug nut to fit the middle rib so that it has to be unlocked to remove. You probably want to find the locking lugs first and then match the bolt to it.
I have just re-replaced the pintle Drawbar on my M416. The previous owner cut the ring off, put a standard trailer ball hitch on the remaining stub with 4 bolts. I found a replacement lunette on this site. When I cleaned it up and tightened the spring/nut to spec, the ring hardly budges/rotates...
Just wanted to post a positive comment for a change. I always seem to come here with problems that I need help with. I am happy to say that I was just outside getting the garbage cans in from the road. My Blazer runs well now that the starter issues have been resolved. I drove it all day with...
Here is a thread for making your own tool. Cheap and easy. The nut inserts are available at an ACE hardware.http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/72306-antenna-mount-nutsert-tool.html
The pack I bought- a HELP product was labeled "GM". It contained both "A" and "B" types in it. The "B"B variety were labeled various thickness'. The "A" all seemed to be the same. Looking at the TM, there is a shim that looks like the "A" type. I went with one of those since even though the...
Gonna add shims to stop all the grinding. The TM shows a straight-ish looking shim- but this is for a Direct Drive starter. Is the gear reduction that I am using (28MT) the same or is the offset needed?
Be sure to:
Check that you are using the right starter bracket and bolt.
Use the right starter mounting bolts a dealer item
Clean the starter mounting surfaces, and... wait for it...
Shim, if needed. You'll have to remove the protector for the flexplate. 6-7 bolts and a bit of wiggling...
HOLY SMOKES! I found the problem. After hearing the solenoid engaging; but no starter motor, I took the inspection cover off of the flexplate. I see all this brass shavings up against the engine and the starter gear is stuck in the teeth of the flexplate. I have looked here before and never...
I ran a 10g wire from the starter solenoid to the 12v positive of the front battery. The starter solenoid was clearly engaging. I measured the voltage of the battery cable to the starter motor. It was 25v- I had just charged both batteries.
This seems to be the starter.
SO I will remove it...
Just got back in from further testing. I followed Dstang97 recommendation to:
I disconnected all wires from the starter relay; attached the red and purple wire to the remote pushbutton starter switch and got a noise from the starter solenoid- no cranking. The purple wire reads grounded when the...
