Oh yeah! Put about 40 miles on it yesterday. It's been coming along a little bit slower these last few weeks because I have been putting all my energy into erecting a 40 foot long, 16 foot high industrial shelter to restore it under. I have had to have MAJOR work done to my backyard to come...
How's the cab interior temps with the armored glass (I'm assuming they don't roll down on the doors)? I drove mine around for about 40 miles today, and was wishing there was some way to kick a little more airflow into the cab then just the door windows. I kinda miss my kick-open floor vents...
It's a hemtt as far as I'm concerned. Just the 4x4 variant - The data plate says so!
Besides, anyone that's seen it in person would definitely never think of it as a runt. I would love to have something that had all the cool of a hemtt, but with decent fuel mileage, easy parking, and...
RE: Who
Thanks for the tip - I'm gonna call him in the morning. I think the current roster of hemtt owners on here is Bruce Kubu, M1075, Leonard Jones, and myself. Anyone else i'm forgetting?
I'll post what I find out from him if anyone else needs anything.
Re: RE: Marines
It is an LVS, Jones. Check out the smaller grill on it. Also, I notice that LVS usually have the little headlight guards over the headlight openings on the skidplates. I've never seen that feature on any other hemtt. Not a bad idea, though. Might have to fab up a set for...
I used to use a gps to check the speed on my old M813 with 16-20 xl's and I could hold 60 fairly close to redline. 55 was much more comfortable, though. Even at 55 - on the freeway that a reasonable speed for a truck like this. It's not like you'd be alone there in the slow lane.
I wouldn't...
When I did all mine I just torqued them down as tight as my IR impact would tighten 'em. I don't think you could over tighten these with reasonably sized tools. 500 ft lbs seems appropriate to me. The key is REALLY TIGHT.
You definitely can do this yourself. Use the rubber beadlock...
Seats are Corbeau GTS II - $320 each, and the harnesses are 3-point retractable harnesses that are have free-retracting shoulder belts until they are inertia activated or you can lock them manually with a knob. They are $100 each.
I am planning on having the seats recovered in canvas when the...
I get the same question, too. You can't see it in the pics very well, but since buying the HEMTT, I had $8000 of work done to my backyard to cut out 100 yards or dirt and rock from my hillside and that 7 foot tall rock retaining wall put in. That's because the HEMTT was so much longer then...
I've noticed some differences in the cabs on the LVS vs. the HEMTT are the skidplate openings, the lack of a right rear window, the vent arrangement on the roof is different, there is no clearance light on the corner of the cab on a LVS, and most significantly - the intake tunnel that runs up...
I have a very understanding soon-to-be-wife. I'm giving here the greatest gift ever on August 18th....
After six years of anticipation she has finally convinced me to marry her ;)
Seriously, I am really luck to not have to fight the big "no more green metal" fight. She understands that I...
Next I need a couple of front shocks. The 2 for the front steer axle are missing. I think I will pull one of the rear shocks off and make sure it fits okay on the front, and then take it to my local Kenworth shop where I get most of my stuff and get two new ones matched up from the parts...
I have found that parts are not as hard to find as some might think. The only parts that are really tough are parts made SPECIFICALLY by Oshkosh - such as skid plates, rear fenders, cargo boxes, airboxes, battery boxes, front fenders, etc. These parts are out there, but you have to find them...
Here's a couple pics of the battery box I just mounted up after posting these last pics. When I got the truck it had the battery box, but was missing the battery box lid. I had a new one fabricated up. It's a little bit different then the stocker, but I think it's an improvement. I wanted...
Re: RE: O-rings
Yes, the holes are tapered on both sides so they can be run both ways. The HEMTT runs them bolts out on the front 4, and flipped in on the rear 4.
Those are not 20 bolt wheels. THey are 16 bolt wheels for a HEMTT. I know because I just mounted one together yesterday for my HEMTT. Take a look at this thread - there is a picture of the same exact wheel in my garage I put together for my spare tire.
The newest HEMTT's come with this...
It's still a LONGGGG way off from completion, but I've finally got it together enough to feel good about posting some pics here for you guys to see what I've been spending all my money on the last couple months.
I just got the repaired skidplate and skidplate frame back from the powdercoaters...
I'm not really looking for a heavy coating like Rust Bullet, or POR 15. I don't want to add to the layers of coating build-up on airlines, hydraulic lines, wiring, etc. The paint I'm applying is enough already. That is what always seems to flake off first. Besides - it gets harder to get a...
