They are the Selectro hubs. I believe they were installed by MVtrucker when he owned it. There are pics of it in members rides, Towerguy1s M35A2. They work well.
Although not stock, I like being able to unlock the front hubs when they are not needed. They are quite rugged, and would survive ok off-road, with the exception of hitting a large rock or something like that.
When I did mine I was quite sure my manual is the same as above but in INCH POUNDS. Not foot pounds. Im almost positive I used 165 inch pounds when I retightened them.
Im cheep.... Buy a 3' long piece of heater hose Approx 3/4 or 5/8 or so. One end to the ear, one end to "snoop" arround the engine. Works good and is handy to have arround as spare hose. A chunk of garden hose works to if you have a scrap piece arround.
They where used for sand and soft terrain. Mattracks had a video of a test with 2 HMMWV's one with and one without. Dont know if its still there. I bet it is. I have a set for my Polaris Sportsman 600 ATV, There AWSOME !!!!!! Ill post some pics sometime. I usually put them on in the winter, but...
As I understand it, The muffler with the turbo engines will not let the turbo work properly. However there is a "Resonator" that will reduce the noise some and allow exhaust to move freely by. A local fire dept. did that to theirs so they could hear the 2 way radio and it helps. Im shure one of...
I use Stanadyne Performance Formula. Prevents gelling, Waxing, Boost cetane, Rust & Corrosion prevention, Lubercation, and cleaner. I have also used Power Service with good results. Overall the Stanadyne is a better product.
$375 is a good deal to recore it. It cost me about $560, naturally I found several NOS radiators for about $600 after the fact. Oh well..... At least its fixed with no continueing problems.
Usually the assembly on the auto chains hangs very low next to the tire even when not in use, I think it would be subject to being damaged by derbis when off road.
That sounds like a good solution. Let us know if it works well. I generally use the ones in the lower radiator hose on my other trucks and tractors, there didnt seem to be a good place on the deuce because it would rub on other parts. Dont want a suprise hole to develop! I would think 1000W...
Im in Exeter, Maine (Between Bangor and Newport) Most any auto parts store should have or can order them. I got mine from a tractor supply store. Id look for a higher wattage one. My 300w one takes a really long time to heat all that oil. Maybe a pair? These are about $50 each. I like the KATS...
I have a KAT'S magnetic oilpan heater #1160 it's a little slow but works. Warming the oil helps the turbo too. This heater is only 300 Watts. get a bigger one if you can. or plug it in overnight.
