I installed a new (to me) 58 gal. fuel tank from an M931 tractor on the right side to match the left one installed back in Feb '14. I also installed locking fuel caps on both sides.

The pics Castle Bravo posted (the one from Boyce?) when compared to an M813 put the amidships axle in the same relation to the fuel tank sans mudguard. The rear frame is only missing bumperettes.
Does the M815 share the the same chassis as the M813? I have noticed the longer frame overhang in the rear and, what appears to be, a single left side 78 gal. fuel tank.
It was definitely part of the M809-series of 5-tons. It was not a very common truck. Basically a military version of a logging truck. I have only seen them in TM drawings and photos. The photos were on Boyce Equipment's website, but are now gone.
Most of the installs I have seen put the control boxes in the upper rear corners of the cab. That's how I made the decision to put mine where they are. It seems more natural to reach up slightly over your head to adjust the box than toward the middle of the vehicle while driving.
