Beautiful truck! I will never use fuel with ethanol in one of these trucks again. It has caused me a lot of problems in the humid Wisconsin summer. I suspect the problem compounds with less than a full tank of fuel and the fact it is not a closed to the atmosphere like new vehicles. I'll...
Where in Iowa are you located?
The easiest way to deal with the torque rod is to remove the top one. You will need to make one set of shackles solid. I would make the front shackles the fixed spring mount. They are just plain easier to get at. If you remove any of the 3 torque rods without...
Good advice 1944MB. The other think to consider is the parking brake. It is a band on the rear axle's driveshaft. The driveshaft is geared to the other rear axle's driveshaft. IF the parking brake is stuck, it may give the illusion both rears are locked up. The front would not necessarily...
Most likely it has two 12 volt batteries. Count the cells in each battery. Each cell is about 2.1 volts so a 12 colt battery has 6 cells where as a 6 volt battery has only 3 cells per battery.
Is the parking brake free?
Yes, post pictures and consider selling your take out parts.
There are a few threads showing trucks that have been re-powered. I remember one the had a 350 chevy with a 4 speed. Another had a engine trans out of a C65 chevy. I think it was a 366 or 427 truck motor with an 5 speed. There was...
Flip the front center section upside down and it spins the right way. You need to do 2 other things.
1. Grind a notch in the housing so the ring gear fits in the housing.
2. You have to cut 1/2"-3/4" off one of the axle shafts. I can't remember what side, but it is obvious.
I have done it on an...
I would say fair. It is really old technology. Not exactly a modern seal. Some drip, bit no stream. If I could find the shaft and bearings reasonable, I would look into different seals.
Look at post #261.

Before you take it apart measure from the base of the pump to the pulley flange. Mine did press in at a different height
Looking good!
I remember the first time I tried to reassemble one of those. Fought and fought with the roller bearings. Never thought it would ever go back together. An old mechanic told me to use wheel bearing grease to hold the rollers in place.
I remember the truck from somewhere. I will PM you my phone number. Maybe I can help you out. If I had to guess, you will need a master cylinder. Maybe a few wheel cylinders. The shoes and drums are usually good as previously stated by a wise man. The airpack, if not repairable can be converted...
I think the original pump was 3-4 psi. I'm running 6-8 in the new pump. I added a regulator with a gauge just in care I had to turn it down. I have had no problems.
This is really the best answer in my opinion. I struggled a long time until I gave in and got the Facet pump. The original pump was discontinued long ago. There was an upgraded pump kit adopted by the military. It looks much like the Facet pump and has similar specs. I believe the military...
