I will be at Fleet Farm at 0800 when they open in the morning. Thank you! Did they run off the gas grill tanks? I wonder if they could run off the camping size bottles without a regulator? Easier to handle around the camp site.
I acquired a bird banger today. I believe it is propane powered. The company that made it is Reed-Joseph and is still in business. Remnants of the sticker are still there. I'll be calling Monday for a regulator or to find the operating psi. Here are the manufacturer's operating instructions...
I'm well into painting the interior now. Everything is primed and the interior is painted. Decided to go with Hunter Specialties Olive Drab. It is made in Iowa. I have painted several boats over the years and it is really tough. I use a lot of enamel hardener and a touch of acetone to reduce...
Thanks for the link Warthog. I really do not understand the logic behind that set up. I will look at my TMs again. Everything I have is set up differently with the heater core inside.
I use a 6 ton bottle jack for everything. I can get 1 wheel up with a 3 ton floor jack, but it is very difficult. I purchased 6 ton jack stands. I set them on 16" squares of double thick 3/4" plywood. The plywood bases works very well on solid ground. I suppose wood blocking could work, but I...
I just got the Holley accelerator pump HOL-30R92A today. 2.394" long and 0.61"diameter. The cup is greyish leather. It feels like a heavy paper, almost like a recipe card. Much thinner than what is in my kits. I bet it will work.
Ok, here is the best practice so far. Use a marker to darken the stamped vehicle numbers and date. Wipe excess marker quickly with acetone on a cloth rag. Heat the plates to 200 degrees in the oven for 30 minutes before spraying clear. Very nice finish and dry to the touch in a few minutes. This...
No black paint. Just remove old overspray and corrosion, then clear. The black background would not come off with the stripper.
Pics 2 & 3 are the before. Pics 5 & 6 are the after. Pic 1 shows the stripper and clear.
The only thing not shown is steel wool and the sink I rinsed them in.
The...
Here is my data plate story.
I tried the suggested method found in another post of paint and sand off the higher letters. This could have produced a better result, however it did not work for me for several reasons.
1. The height of the raised letters is so small I kept scratching the...
Did some reading on the data plate restoration threads. Testing on some extra plates. Paint remover in the spray cans worked great. Most only needed 1 coat, but a few with thick white paint took 3 coats and steel wool between. The white corrosion on the backs even came off with the spray. The...
I have the deuce inside my heated garage for the winter. It is time to prime and paint the interior. Jim suggested the Rustoleum primer. Spray cans are my choice for this project as I will be doing small sections at a time. The back 40% is sanded and primed. Pulled the seats and dash out. The...
I just ordered the accelerator pump HOL-30R92A on Ebay. I will measure the diameter and post it upon arrival. Can you measure the diameter of your old one?
Here is what I'm reading in the TMs

I did unearth the photocopies of military manual chapter on the 885-FFG and the 1957 Holley service manual. Neither had any insight on the difficulties we experienced. Could the kits be for the REO or something else? I believe they were used on mercury and some other cars as the side air horn...
