Caimen wheels yes but single wheels, not dually. Lug centric pattern. Also forgot to mention on that I got the test results back on the wheel studs that failed (had 1 tested). Wheel stud was only about 1/2 the strength it was supposed to be and all 20 of those failed studs were from the same...
Hey bobbed wrecker concept with the stock bed........
Not really. Just in the middle of mods/repairs and have to be able to move the truck around the lot. Stock bed is way too heavy for this
Maybe, but that's not quite the balance point. The beauty of the commercial one is that the drum is balanced no matter how high/low it's lifted off the ground, so it slides on easily.
I think with 2 bands tied together it would work. 1 band to clamp the drum, the other to clamp the hub, and a...
I agree the commercial one is meant for outboard drums. Would have to redesign the 'clamp' assembly to pick up a inboard drum/hub assembly in a balanced way.
And, the dirty hooker is lot mobile!!! Rear tire was at 40psi in the pic, bumped it up to 50psi. Might hold more but concerned either the tube or tire could let go so not going to push it.
Welded up all of the outriggers pivot points. Couple little bubbles in the weld but will be fine for...
Well a little box of wheel studs arrived yesterday and took them out to the m816 today. Knocked out the old ones on the 3rd axle that were sheered and replaced em. Then took the 4 intact bridge truck tires/wheels and mounted them onto the front and 3rd axles. Block the rear suspension and chain...
Best way would be to contact a manufacturer. This link builds them for pickups http://www.thetrailerspecialist.com/showroom/CM-Truck-Beds/GP-Truck-Bed-(Gin-Pole) using schedule 80.
Gin poles are very common in the oilfield and other field industries.
Spent today Doing some more cleanup and cutting. Got the useful scrap metal onto a pallet and removed the rear axles from the m51a2 remains. The dog bone ends on it are no good either, so looks like will have to buy some for the wreckers lower 4 bones.
Then rolled the bridge truck...
Alright time for the wrecker to get some attention. Worked out a deal for some 5/8" chains from a new heavy towbar kit (the square one with 85k rating). Should work quite nicely for the winches. For now just wrapped them around the front bumper and will eventually find a good spot to store them...
Wondering if 2 of my sf97's fell through the cracks then (request sent 11Sept). I'll wait to contact you PHasty until the end of next week since you mentioned that a bunch are being mailed out the first week of December.
Did some measuring today under the wrecker in regards to extending the wheelbase and looks like it won't be as simple as hoped. The rear frame would have to be extended about 18" to provide clearance for the middle axle to not make contact with the reinforced crossmember (the one that sits...
Yea there's a bunch of info in that build thread on the m816 and I'm nowhere near done haha.
No clue on the generators. Find out what the power requirements are for the battery charger you plan to use and (if that's the biggest load it will have) size the generator to it.
I remember reading on here that the 20" wheels can be made to work with some grinding on the axle for clearance.
Looks like finding tires has been a problem for over a decade on these.
Edit: (correction, lug pattern issues apparently)
Agreed, that 7ft is supposed to be a 9ft + xin with the bridge truck beds. That and the outer duals are most of what make them overwidth. Cheapest way to get a longbed though is with a bridge truck then narrow the bed.
If I ever get a 2nd truck it will probably be a bridge truck, either one of...

Kinda starts at post 353 with the install. Covered all the hub work/plumbing. Figure on about 1k dollars with the plumbing/fitting/valves. I simplified the air brake valves to run the minimum necessary...
The wrecker chassis and suspension will handle the weight fine. It's truck weight with tools/gear is roughly 40k plus officially up to 20k on the hook when lift towing. Gonna need a tag axle to make DOT happy with that much weight.
I cut this one up but that was the plan with this m51a2 dump...
