    Just the next New Guy

Rayzer's M146 camper build, to give you ideas of what the interior could become. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?68575-M146-RV-Conversion How tall of super singles do you plan to go? I'm running the 395's (47" tall) on my m816 wrecker, 38,000 lbs. Cruises well at 54mph and 2000rpm.

Make it quiet. Lower decibel level M809

That's actually quieter than what I measured in the cab of my old m35a2, it was 99 Db in the cab at 2100rpm (50mph ish). Lizard skin makes a good sound/thermal insulating paint as well but I don't think it holds up as well as bed liner. Will you coat both the inside/outside of the cab?

Good platform to start with. Planning to build the living quarters first or some truck upgrades?

NHC 250 Turbo Conversion in M923

Physically the pump will swap over and I'm pretty sure the injectors will as well. Boost and EGT gauges are good. Also when playing with the fuel system make sure the fuel psi after the pump is at or below 200psi. Higher than that and the lobes on the cam for the fuel injectors will fail (big...

NHC 250 Turbo Conversion in M923

Many of the internals won't transfer over from the small cam NHC250 to the big cam NTC400. Swapping the turbo, intake/exhaust manifolds, and jakes are a good idea to the nhc250. Make sure to install a EGT gauge and keep the temps below 1200F pre turbo, preferably below 1100F. If that's not...

    M923 engine noise

Correct, but there are belts attached to drive other components. By removing the belts you remove those other components (fan, power steering pump, etc) from the equation.

    M923 engine noise

Remove the belts from the air compressor then start it up/listen again.

    Front leaf springs

4 roughly 12ft chain legs with 4 shortening hooks on 1 ring. Works great when needed but when bundled up it looks like that haha.

    Front leaf springs

Air ride is outside the trailer budget haha. The trailer chassis will be shortened to roughly the end of the cab protector (minus the hitch section).

    Front leaf springs

Pintle. Axle (or axles) will be near the rear of the trailer. Taking the m51a2 remains and turning it into a trailer. Plan is to have the bed swappable and will be mounted at the rear of the trailer. Between the hitch and the bed/beds will be generator, welder, and tools.

    Front leaf springs

What is the weight rating of the front leaf springs on the 5 ton trucks? Planning a trailer project and trying to figure out if I can use just 1 rear axle with the front leaf springs, or if it will require the stock rear suspension. Maximum trailer weight including payload would be 25-30k.

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Well if you go commando there aint no need to worry about a wedgy hahaha. Spent today making the backing plate for the brake pedal. For some reason this truck had 2 turn signal relays mounted, one in the cab (wires cut) and one in the engine bay. Either way the one in the cab had to be removed...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Yea the pneumatic grease guns are great. Using the flexible grease hose it's just one hand to hold the hose and the other hand just squeezes the trigger for a little while. When I first serviced the truck went through 5 tubes of grease just hitting all the grease zerks, no way am I doing that...

Wonder how they compare to similar sized Heim joints?

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Spent today out at the wrecker. Those 9/16" rivets, well most of them on this 1 hub came out ok. Few seconds with the grinder to smooth them out then some air hammer work and 7 of them came out. Number 8 took some heat and sledge hammer work before it decided to come out. The last 2 however...

All 5-tons: Heavy Duty Torque Rod Ends

The lower 4 dog bones on my wrecker need new ends. What is the expected lifespan of these compared to the stock ones?

    XM971 Rebuild and Camper Mod

Humidity at 60%, what is this nonsense! A very humid day in Utah is 35% haha. After growing up in Texas and spending a year in Florida, I give people a funny look or choke on my beer when people complain about the heat and humidity here hahaha. Sleeping for how many people Csm Davis?

    M925a2 Power Surge

How bout complicated, 3 stick shifting! haha https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lEYaTvvq4g If you watch the video in the link I'm pretty sure he's driving a 13 speed and throwing the main shifter around way more than necessary. His shift levers are left-gear splittler. Middle-main shifter...
