That's the fuel injection pump, not the injector.
A common problem with them is what's called the 'button' falls off. Most likely that is what happened here and it costs less than $50 to fix in parts, at most 2 hours of labor.
The injection pump on older diesel engines (non common rail) never...
I didn't post that picture (not me lifting it) saying it was a good/safe lift, I posted it as an example of how severely under rated these cranes are. Fuzzy mentioned that the trailer weighs 11k, and as seen in the pic the crane is at full extension with no supports or outriggers. Per the...
8.3 relies heavily on the turbo for power, so it will be gutless until the turbo is spooled up.
Check all the air intake tubing, might has a loose connection where the compressed air is venting.
Had a lightbulb moment. Instead of welding tabs to the boom jacks/travel legs that would be pinned to the wiffle tree, why not weld in tabs that will just prevent the tubes from moving? Use 2 short chains that wrap around the tube, connected to the wiffle tree pins using those short chains. Then...
Haha my first exposure to it was during basic as well. Had the flu and was really congested. Go into the gas chamber, finally get to take the gas mask off and all the snot in my lungs/sinuses dump on the drill instructors chemical boots. It was a violent purge but worked great hahaha.
I'll be out at the m816 this weekend and can take pics of the rating plates on the crane.
Interesting setup on the outriggers, gives me some ideas when mine gets upgraded to hydraulic. Any pics of your valve bank mounted on the bed?
Nice find. That's similar power numbers to the older Cummins 400 big cam. Since you run empty most of the time the motor should live a long life. The 'short life' of those is what, expected for 300-400k?
The engine computers are usually voltage specific.
Other than that the engine electronics...
As far as a jib boom (crane extension) goes that's better than most since it will fail before the main parts of the boom fail which is preferred. That setup would still require welding done to the boom which opens up a lot of concern with legality. If planning to use the crane on others stuff...
Gotcha, the standard over the road air brake hose. It's a good choice (300psi, readily available, easy to work with), fiber braided for strength and the external metal coil you added helps with protection.
I'm running the 201 air brake/fluid hose, overkill. Steel braided with a fabric outer...
