Considering a M927 or M928 to live in...

As stated earlier. The other truck/trailer shelters and shipping containers are too wide to fit between the bed sides. You must lower/remove the bed sides.

    help with wheels and tires

If you dont need the front axle powered then it would probably be cheaper for you to swap in a set of 5 ton axles. They are wider and without powering the front axle it would be a simple install.

Could build it as a pellet stove instead of just a wood burner. That way it will keep going. Whether you build it as a wood or pellet burner they are cheap, simple, effective. Can be built how you want. All the wood burners I've used will go out overnight but the embers keep putting off...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

The truck had 2 when I bought it from Valence and was able to start in cold weather with just them, albeit there was not much crank time available. So when the deuce was parted out it's batteries were transferred to the m816 and it's had 4 not so new batteries all year. The truck is parked too...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Weather cooperated today so made some progress. The front axle needs seals and boots (which I haven't ordered yet) so it will have to come apart again in the spring. Started off by wiring up the truck with 2 batteries. Helped another guy out with a m923a2 that had battery issues so for now the...

    Brake safety precautions

the flat vice grips work great with rubber hoses but not with the steel braided hose. Theres also the hydromax option with a dual circuit master cylinder.

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

A 10 speed would be a nice upgrade, no holes between the gears to worry about when driving. Picked up some of my extra air lines I have and a air dryer with antifreeze tank that will be plumbed in along with 1-2 more air tanks after the truck is back on it's wheels. It's getting crowded under...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

That CV shaft is expensive pretty much no matter how it's replaced apparently. I didn't think it would be that much for a new PTO shaft to be setup. Looked at the hydraulic pump on my m816 and looks like it could be relocated under the truck to copy the m936, would need a hydraulic swivel at the...

    Brake safety precautions

Replacing the hoses as rustystud mentioned is a important start, and for a trailside repair I used to carry pipe plugs of the proper size to cap off a broken brake line. That way if a line or wheel cylinder failed there would still be usable brakes from the other axles after installing the plug...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Snowing off/on today so just unloaded the parts to get them by the wrecker, and setup the cargo cover for hopefully the last time for a few months. Usually as soon as it's on it has to come back off again within a week. Some of the items I picked up while in Texas were the remaining...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Just under 28 mpg in the toyota, carrying cargo doesn't seem to affect it. Little 2wd, 4cyl, 5 speed manual cruising at 65 mph. Pic of the truck from a few weeks ago, loaded up for a trip to Oregon/Washington. Yes, the pickup is light enough that the wrecker can lift it up at full extension...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Poor little toyota pickup, hauling all these parts around. Had over 1200 lbs in the bed on the way down, and roughly 1k on the way back up to Utah. Did better than a 2016 dodge ram 1500 rental truck back when I picked up the t1138 tcase, the rear suspension was sitting on it's bumpstops from...

Unless you get an s280 type box, nothing pre-made will fit inside the upright bedsides.

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

I was at 80 psi, my normal with the 395's. Taken it down to 65 psi before and the sidewalls flex very well at that pressure, just was being lazy. The rest of that trip was basically 1000rpm low range 1st/2nd/3rd just crawling right along. Mine has the same low/high shift stubbornness. I would...

Considering a M927 or M928 to live in...

A 20ft shipping container does not fit inside the bed, the sides need to be dropped (exact same width). A 20ft container will run about 4k, a m146 probably about 2k. If I were in your position I would go with either a m146 trailer or a m934/m820. Both of them have better door setups, windows...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Yea I was not planning to do much, if anything, to the wrecker this winter hahaha. If the weather will hold out then this will all be finished soon but I doubt the weather will cooperate. Late November and the first snow storm in this area was a few days ago, been lucky it's held off this long...

Understandable. What would you want to build the box out of and what is your budget range? Considering the length of the truck you could get a m146 trailer and modify it to sit on the bed, or a 20ft shipping container.
