MyothersanM1's thread where he installed S cam air brakes on his m818 http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?140055-M809-series-(M818)-Air-Brake-Retrofit He got the diagram from Bendix.
Haha lying under the truck and thinking things over, know how that feels hahaha. The air can would be a good option to go with before the switch to air brakes.
Speaking of trailers reminds me that my johnson bar has not been plumbed in yet. Mounted, just not plumbed haha.
Will probably be...
No engine manufacturer rates the power at the wheels in the medium and heavy duty market because they don't know what drivetrain or stationary equipment will be bolted to their engine. There are tens of thousands of items that go behind each engine depending on who buys it. All of them are rated...
Thinking of adding a second set of mounts for towing like that or making a similar holmes copy using a set of the short crane support legs and my wiffle tree.
My truck is mostly used for hobby stuff right now but would like to use it for some offroad recoveries in my area. Last time I drove it...
Yea the wrecker will get it's other batteries back eventually, it's parked until the temps come up so not too worried about it at the moment.
Been discussing with Castle Bravo, local DOT, researching and have decided to make the air brake system as simple as possible while still being safe...
Technically better to drain a few gallons of coolant, pour the additive into the reservoir, then pour the coolant back in. Forces it to mix and also lets you remove any contaminants sitting at the bottom of the radiator.
Jeff with the towbar reversed and using the wreckers stock shackle mounts was the towbar angle ok? Or would have rather had the mounts higher on the wrecker bed?
As far as the length of shorter towbar legs I used a IBIS TEK 44,000 lb when lift towing a m51a2. With the legs collapsed and towbar...
Haha I was wondering when those other pics would finally upload for ya. Don't know how much offroad driving you do but even our reinforced wrecker frames flex in that area. Figure 2-3" of clearance between that PTO shaft and the frame rail should be good.
Short video of mine for example...
Great mod, mimics a Holmes setup for a much cheaper price and less equipment to buy. I like how the wood is secured to the plate bracket.
How wide is the plate?
T1138 from the m939 series. Gives a double overdrive as well with this swap http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?59654-M818-Transfer-Case-Upgrade-T-138-to-T-1138
Nice.
For shorter legs, what about using a pair of the crane support legs? Rated to handle the crane at maximum lift so I think they would be strong enough for that kind of setup.
Stewart and Stevenson has been a heavy duty service and modification company, not a manufacturer of the base vehicle such as Kenworth, Peterbilt.... They had never overseen the original vehicle construction until the LMTV contract.
For example my service trucks when I was working in the...
Remove the air line coming off of the compressor and poor the airline antifreeze into the hose, then reconnect the hose to the compressor. It will flow through the air dryer.
Didn't own it but drove the LMTV's that we had often, and flat towed them off of the range when they would break down. Certainly NOT a hollow, never really messed with them opinion. Used them offroad mostly, varying terrain while transporting cargo within it's rated capability. They averaged 3...
