I gave up on painting hardware. It is impossible to produce a reliable finish that endures the fastener installation and tightening. I have searched online and have discovered some processes that can be performed in your own garage using inexpensive tools. My buddy is currently using these...
Update:
After looking at many alternatives, I contacted Cindy Berg at Berg General Supply Home Page
Cindy explained that there is not much chance I will be able to duplicate the sewn/heat sealed original seam construction. Apparently the sewing thread used by suppliers does not hold up and...
Guys,
I don't drive on the highway. The stock brake system works fine for the low speed off road driving I do, so this thread does not apply to my needs. However I do dream a lot! In my opinion this thread should be expanded to incorporate power steering and the hydro-boost brake master...
I am seeking materials and methods to repair rips, holes and failed seams on a few covers. Before experimenting with adhesives or glues, I wanted to check in with everyone to see if anyone has tried rewelding seams or new patch material using a small hobby iron?
The cost of an iron is about the...
Mapquest has something: MapQuest Maps - Driving Directions - Map
EDIT: you will have to cut and paste the address from the first post into Mapquest. Sorry, my attempt at posting the search results did not work.

I will be there this Sunday as well. I'll be bringing at least my father in law,
maybe more family members when they hear my plans.
Not driving anything OD: the new e-brake on the M35a2 failed and one wheel cylinder has taken to leaking.

Build if for the 900 tire the way Jake0147 recommends, and add a spacer under the tire for smaller diameter spares.
Triangulation will prevent your stand from tearing itself off.

I like the design! I'd suggest making it low as possible and install some back stays to triangulate it a bit. Some 3/8" rod would work.
Looks good, let us know when its done in metal!

According to photo 4 of 4, the bead seating looks excellent. The rust stain appears to be full contact to the lip of the bead. So while the tire may not be designed for MPT rims, the tire lacks a bead saver that allows it to work.

I may hafta do that task on my A2C truck. The pitman shaft moves in the box quite a bit. I check it once a week to see if it magically repairs itself, but so far it hasn't happened.
How did you press the bushings out and back in?
Rick
Having the lug wrench and T bar connected when the winch unwinds out of control can be worse!
Glad you guys are OK and are participating in a worthwhile hobby together.

It would be helpful to define your purpose, how many persons, weight of gear and objectives (remote camping, all road travel, ect.....)
The Unimogs mentioned are at the lower end of the capacity spectrum and are a great platform, especially for consideration as an exploration vehicle because...
Doc did you get it in that shape or have you been giving it a lot of love? Sure looks awesome, thanks for posting!
I like the idea of an electric fence around the truck to keep the cattle away!
